I remember one boxing writer in the 80s describing a heavyweight fight as "theater of the flabsurd". Soft looking heavyweights are nothing new.

I don't know how Galento even survived on such a shitty diet, wouldn't his type be a joke if he was fighting today or even in the 70s?

    "FAT heavyweights"

Povetkin weighed about 2lbs more in this fight vs Chagaev than he weighed in his fight vs Huck. Weight wasn't the issue for AP vs Huck, it was something else but due to "libel" I will leave that to the imagination.

Bottom line is todays heavyweights throw less punches and tire much faster than in the past because they're carrying to much weight whether it due to bulk or sheer fat. Take Joe Frazier for instance. He was never ripped, but in peak condition he was fast and constantly bobbing, weaving and throwing punches. Look at Ali as another example.....less weight = faster with better movement. More weight = slower with less movement. All you have to do is watch their 3 fight series to know this is true.

Yeah he is acually getting somewhere. Looked kinda good in his last fight so if we just keep on training and focus on maintaining abit he would look great.

First of all what's important to any fighter is to find a weight class where you are comfortable and get down to a weight where you can perform your best.
I mean arrelola / povetkin / helenius. All of them could easily loose like 5kgs of pure fat that aren't doing anything but slowing them down.

The main problem is probably that they aren't dedicated in betwen fights.

I was actually around back then and I remember heavyweight fights often being two blubbery guys clinching for 14 rounds and throwing punches for the last round.

Ibeabuchi vs Tua = combined punches 1,730 most punches thrown in a heavyweight fight.

    What's wrong with you Butch?

You linked a Old Holmes and a chunky Mercer.

Where's the fat on 60's Ali?

If you look at the top 10-15 of the 90's. You see

Lewis-Holyfield-Bowe-90's Tyson-Moorer-Ruddock-Morrison-Ike-Bruno even Golota was fit and had very little body fat.

THE ONLY top 10-15 fighters during the 90's era that carried extra weight around was old Foreman(100% Explainable) and Mercer. Tua was wide and stocky, but he wasn't that fat during the 90's. The vast majority of the 90's top guys were very well build and fit.

Today's HW'S outside of Haye and K2, are grossly out of shape, stop talking out your ass as if ATG Hw's were fat.

Name one ATG HW from the 60's to the 2000ish that was 'fat' during his prime
