Am I the only one who thinks this is an awesome matchup? Both lighting fast guys. Both amongst the top 5 fastest lightweights ever. Camacho was faster, but I don't see anything else he has over Laguna. Laguna was better skilled, had better reflexes, had a higher ring IQ, and beat better opposition. Camacho woulda NEVER beaten Carlos Ortiz.

And although Camacho was faster, the gap in speed isn't big enough to where Laguna wouldn't score. Laguna was just meaner, and tougher than Camacho and would outfight and outbox him after having early trouble with Hector's speed.

    Thoughts?

I'd probably go with Laguna myself. Too bad him and Duran never had a chance to fight, that would have really been something given who Laguna was at the time.

I feel bad for Laguna, as Duran is such a Panamanian icon that Laguna often gets forgotten.

Same with Pedroza. Both Laguna and Pedroza were great fighters from Panama who will always exist in the shadow of Duran.

True but growing up, Laguna was a icon for Duran and prior to Duran breaking out and making his mark, the accolades prior to that were mostly reserved for Laguna. The number of great boxers who came out of Panama at that time was insane. They did spar once but there's a dispute as to the outcome of that. I guess I gotta believe if they ever fought Duran would likely win, given that Laguna lost to Buchanan twice prior to Duran beating Buchanan from pillar to post.
