If it's pre-Rosario Camacho, I think he can win on points. Whitaker UD's a post-Rosario Hector, though.

I don't have an argument with your assesment Califa. I always liked Camacho, he was a joy to watch when he was on his game. This bout with both Men on there game could just about be pick em. Although I would still give an edge to Whitaker due to the fact he accomplished more with his carrer.

Everyone's forgetting how far superior Pea was on the inside. I honestly think Pea makes the fight just that, a fight, and the result is a clear UD in his favor where he lands a lot more leather on Camacho than you'd think.

I agree with you that Whitaker is better on the inside, and that he would win a decision.

I'm not so sure Whitaker would get to prove his betterment of infighting in this one. Camacho would most surely flurry, and flee the scene.

I agree that Whitaker wins, but it's your reasoning why he does that I can't fathom. It comes down to styles and ability within each fighter when stacking them against each other. Also how each fighter coped with certain styles, punch resistance, ability to box, stamina, etc, and obviously imagining how the fight between whichever boxers in question develops in your mind.

To say that "Whitaker due to the fact he accomplished more with his career" doesn't sound right at all.

Donald Curry never accomplished as much as De La Hoya, yet many people would pick him to win a fight at welterweight between them both. And the pick wouldn't be based upon Curry accomplishing more throughout his career.

The reasoning behind my statement is that Camacho didn't seem as dedicated as Whitaker was to the sport. Camacho was a talent who could've and should've done more but for dedication IMO. Whitaker accomplished more as per his talent there by demonstrating his commitment.

An old Pernell seemed to box ok against a prime DLH, who had speed, reach and height advantages.

Legend is a pretty strong word. there are no legends nowadays. To become a legend you must have stood out more than just the premier fighter of the lower weight classes and you have that every few years. In the 70s it was Duran, then leonard and Cuevas. Then Camacho was burning up the scene with his domination of the 130,135 pound class. Next matinee idol was Chavez along with Pernell. Who knows who it is nowadays. It all depends on how familiar a person is and how closely they follow the sport.

Whitkaer wins this, he's LIGHT YEARS better than anyone Camacho ever actually BEAT. Camacho would fight well and be competitive , because Whitaker is no massive puncher and it's speedster vs speedster. Whitaker just the better fighter.

Examples of fighters getting the better of opponents with better speed, where the fighter with lesser speed isn't necessarily stronger or a bigger puncher:

    Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab Judah
Billy Graham vs. Kid Gavilan I
Carmen Basilio vs. Ray Robinson I
Emile Griffith vs. Joey Archer II
    Johnny Famechon vs. Jose Legra
    Marlon Starling vs. Lloyd Honeyghan
Miguel Canto vs. Chan Hee Park II
Stevie Johnston vs. Jean Baptise Mendy
    Winky Wright vs. Jermain Taylor

    and ..... drum roll......

Greg Haugen vs. Hector Camacho I :good

Make Camacho miss and counter, out time Camacho, neutralise Camacho with the jab and keep it pumping in his face, outmove Camacho, outwork Camacho.....and so forth

Pea UD, probably 8-4, maybe even 7-5 but Pea all the way for me

You forgot beat him down to the body and possibly force the ref to deduct a point from Camacho for constantly holding. Mind you, I think Pea is slippery enough to break out of clinches and land body shots anyway, try as Camacho might to hold on.
