I concur, but Camacho did not have hell with Haugen the first time. He dropped him with power he seems to always abandon and the idiotic point deduction from Padilla. Boza-Edwards was the first fight back from the tough fight with Rosario and I remember the boos for all the hugging and running.

Camacho was clearly very talented, no one disputes that, but these are the facts:

    - His best win was a one sided showing against Jose Luis Ramirez

Limon and Solis were also good wins. Limon prior to fighting Camacho had a hell of a fight with Chacon in a losing effort. He was not shot as some claim. Chacon ducked Camacho and Camacho had a tough time holding 130 or we would have seen some good fights with Chacon and Chavez.

    - He got beaten in one sided sided fashion when he faced great fighters when he himself was on the slide, true and he did it mostly for the big paydays.

    - He had HELL with Rosario, but won by points.

    - He had HELL with a past his best Mancini, it was a garbage fight all together.

    - He had HELL with Haugen, it was a good fight and Haugen is a good fighter. Camacho won both, but was awarded one. I think it was ruled a no contest due to Haugen smoking weed. He was probably high so he did well.

    - He RAN from Boza Edwards who was outside his best weight and years, yes from 130 where Camacho came from.

    - He faced a lot of nobodies at 130 in his so called prime that even a Zab Judah 130 pound equivalent would dominate and lead everyone to think he was Pernell Whitaker with power, now is that his fault, he had the talent to take on all comers and missed the gravy train there with Chacon and Chavez.

His struggles with good but no where near great fighters, together with his not showing any resistance against greats when he was declining must surely place some doubt in the mind of the sane viewer that thinks Camacho was clearly a great fighter capable of beating the greats in his prime. We will never know.

Who was great at 135 that would have propelled him to great? Rosario? It is like Hatton. I believe he is one of the best ever 140 pounders, but there is no great fighter for him to prove at that weight. Is Kosta great? Camacho at 130 and preRosario thought he was invincible so if we would have thrown Chavez at him back then, then we would have really found out how talent he could have been. I truly believe he would have beaten Chavez at 130. That is my opinion. ATG no, but he may get in the hall due to three weight class titles and some decent wins. I give him all the respect in the world to go and fight the likes of Chavez, Tito, and Oscar in their primes. He was in their to be a punching bag, he tried with what he had.

i also believe hector would have tamed Chavez at 130. Chavez for some reason was always one step behind Hector when making a career move-seemingly so that he wouldnt have to face him. they knew it was a bad career move. He was just too fast for him.

For me, 1992 was just too late for this fight. We didnt need another Leonard-Hagler on our hands

When fighter A avoids fighter B for prolonged periods of time (years) it can only mean one thing-that he is waiting for fighter B to slowdown to a more human, more scaled-down level.

Pernell would have loved to have faced him but he too would have been in over his head.

Camacho is faster, but Pernell had more in nuances and technicality.I'll give it to Pernell by close unanimous decision, but it wouldn't totally surprised me if it went either way.

believe me, it would go the other way. Given two boxers with equal skills, the faster man will nearly always win and Hector was much much faster

as for skills, his defense was more subtle. winning came so easy to him that they were simply routes. what's more, JC Chavez definitely ducked him. that is, until Hector becamse a safe also ran like Laporte, Rosario, Ramirez, Mayweather, Lockridge, etc

    Chavez never ducked Camacho.

Hector left 130lbs before Julio even won a title there. Word has it Hector was running from Martinez (whom Chavez destroyed). After the Rosario scare, Hector ran to 140lbs, while Julio about more than a year later, moved up to destroy the same guy who ran Hector out of the division. Only reason he even fought Chavez at 140lbs was to feed his coke habit.

At 130lbs it would have been an interesting fight, with Chavez edging it in a very close one, at 135lbs Julio was another diffrent beat and would have whooped Camacho, probably just as bad as he did in their '92 encounter.

and Pernell was far more skilled than Hector. :patsch

Did Rooster say pea would be over his head with camacho... Jesus H. Christ.... This is worse than his posts in the fake ayala gym stories thread. Pea was NEVER over his head, and he fought superior opposition and dominated them in clear fashion compared to Hector. In fact, a blown up lightweight, past his prime on coke wasn't over his head against a prime peak welterweight in Trindad. Not the best odds of him winning, of course, totally dominated and outclassed.. those words don't exist with Pea.... and they certainly won't in his prime against Hector C.

Camacho did better against Ramirez than Whitaker did against n almost finished Ramirez a few years later . Remember Whitaker was 2 years younger than Camacho and enjoyed more youth advantage against their mutual opponents and usually if not always fought older versions of them than those that Camacho fought . However against Ramirez it still didn't help him at looking better than Camacho did . Not picking 1 over d other yet , but it is a very important thing 2 remember when comparing them in terms of career / overall greatness . Whitaker never beat Ramirez . Some of those who say it either haven't seen d fights , weren't paying attention 2 what they saw , or just go by majority's opinion which is d most common in here . Or some combination of d previous claims .

If you feel like Ramirez won the first fight, then you're in stark disagreement with most on here and in the general boxing world. We can't further a discussion based on that ridiculous notion.

Like hell he isn't :patsch In 85' Camacho was schooling JLR to the tune of a shutout with a kd in the third. You want to see Hector's all time greatness go watch that fight, or what he did to Bazooka Limon, or Boza-Edwards all by the time he was 22. The dude is a all time great fighter, pretty crappy human being, but all time great fighter nonetheless.

His loss to Haugen was from a point deduction in the final round for not touching gloves, he had the fight won and would have been 2-0 against Greg, if he wouldn't have let his stupid pride get in the way.
