Friday evening on the DAZN undercard. 10 rounds @ lightweight. Someone asked just earlier today, "Do top prospects ever fight one another in boxing?" - well, here you go: sometimes, yes. Classic boxer versus puncher match-up (Tanajara sporting a KO rate of barely more than one-quarter, while Zepeda is a shade under 91%). Also southpaw versus orthodox, and somebody's 0's got to go! Tanajara is ranked #29 by the WBC and holds their USNBC title. Zepeda is #13 in line to challenge for the WBO title (held by Teófimo López).
Zepeda will absolutely crush Tanajara. Zepeda is one of the most legit prospects i have seen for a long, long time on that level. He has sneaky power, is an absolute pressure monster and walks you down from the opening bell. The way he stopped Ramirez in his last fight was incredible. Especially if you consider how big Ramirez was and how hard he can punch. It was close early on as Ramirez was moving well and countering a bit but Zepeda just marched forward like a psychopath while being still responsible with his defense. I think Zepeda will walk Tanajara down, he might lose a few rounds early on when Tanajara uses his jab but i think he might stop him in the second half. I just don't see Tanajara dealing too well with the pressure and i think he will crumble under it late. Remembering how Tanjara dealed with nonstop pressure in the Manzanarez fight is kind of worrying. Manza also hurt him badly with an uppercut. My money is on Zepeda here and BIG TIME. On paper it looks like a close fight but after doing my research i'm pretty confident Zepeda will take it. Really good matchmaking by GBP although i'm not 100% sure if Tanajara is still with them as he signed with MTK Global last year.
