What are his credentials and specialties? Why did Abregu seek him out for this big match? He's reportedly affiliated with the famous Gleason's Gym. He trains Maureen "The Real Million Dollar Baby" Shea. He co-wrote a book for aspiring female boxers. This content is protected He is frequently referred to as "the great" or "the legendary" Hector Roca, but information about his roster of proteges is hard to come by. Does anyone know what notable pros have worked under him? Any champions or significant contenders? Also, as an aside: did Max Kellerman say that Roca used to be his trainer? :blood Max Kellerman used to box? At any level? That...shouldn't surprise me as much as it does - but...it does. That sort of throws a damper on the gripes of Zakman and others who say Max doesn't have the qualifications to comment on boxing despite his lifelong fandom and wealth of knowledge...not compared to the likes of Larry Merchant and others who have somehow "paid their dues" as sports journalists (which - to my interpretation, simply means that Zakman is an ageist and biased against young commentators). Do you think Larry Merchant ever boxed? Do you think he ever sparred? Do you think he ever did more than 20 pushups? In the infamous words of Dean Weinstein, "I doubt it!!!!" (apologies for the New Englander in-joke).
I don't think Kellerman has ever boxed am or pro before but Steve Bunce made a comment once that alluded to the fact that Kellerman has trained in a gym before.
These are all the qualifications Max ever needs, imo. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uA8hcv1MzA[/ame]
