Very few men today are skilled on the inside. Guys like Ward and Golovkin are skilled inside boxers. Watch them and see how it's done inside.

So what happens now when a fighter gives up a big height and reach these days? A lot of times they look lost because they don't know how to fight short. They don't know how to get inside and go to work on a comparatively frail man.

Being short is not an inherent disadvantage in boxing. Being lighter is.

ggg vs stevens comes to mind.
Stevens is 5'7". The corner stopped the fight but he was fairly successful on the inside.

Fury beat Wlad on the inside whilst the smaller Wlad fumbled around clinching...hilarious really.

Let's see how good GGG is on the inside against a brutal puncher like CEJ.

CEJ is the best inside fighter in the game atm

Maybe,he's also the best at cancelling fights as well, his career is in danger of going off the rails.

There's a template for fighting big, thanks to Emanuel Stewart but not really the other way around. Though I do enjoy folks bitching about it.

Well, i think a big part of that problem is the amount of holding going on today. Clinching has always taken place, but excessive amounts were penalized. I've watched many a fights where a guy who likes to get inside gets caught in a wrestling hold 20 times a round trying to get inside. If a smaller man is able to get inside than you have to fight him off or keep him at bay with range shots, but not anymore. Just grab him and hold until the ref breaks it up and start back at a distance.

Agree 100%, bad referees have all but killed fighting on the inside, boxing in a phonebooth style fights. Negators are rewarded for fouling and stalling.

When holding became cool, infighting became obsolete. It use to be acceptable but frowned upon, now it's a "tactic".. gtfoh is hitting your opponents in the nuts a tactic now too?
