I used to live in Tartu, I could never understand why Helenius is fighting in Estonia? Then I realized, apart from Finland, he has nowhere else to go but fight on MMA promotions in Tallin.
He lost major strength and range of motion in his R shoulder and his R hand suffered afterwards from improper technique
Had a legal dispute with his promotional/management company Sauerland, spent 2 years on the sidelines, lost his team and has been replaced with an amateur MMA guy. disaster.
I don't think Whyte would've been allowed to get out the first round with Helenius a few years ago, he shook Whyte to his boots.
You're leaving out the why..... Going into the Chisora fight, Robbe was having a phenomenal camp. The fight was for the EU TITLE and was a WBC#1 eliminator. Midway through his camp, his dad Karl, had him doing that 5AM 5k. While running downhill, in the dark, he tripped, fell hard on his R side, and tumbled to a stop. He was bruised and abraised, but sustained no life threatening injuries and altered his training regimen stopping sparring 3 wks early, and using isometric and aquatic exercises to prepare. He saw a Dr who RECOMMENDED the fight be delayed. The MRI results showed damage to 2 key muscle systems in the shoulder. But recommended therapy and rest before surgery. Karl, managing Robbe was adamant that Robbe go forward with the fight. He did so much damage to the labrum and trap muscle that he has NEVER been able to line his R cross/hook for full power. Sauerland tired of his constantly breaking hands and long recovery after surgery that when his power proved gone vs Sprott, they began to pull there support
Sheesh what a shame. If he was 100% this whole time you can only wonder how different his career would have panned out.
I remember when he was beating on Lamon Brewster and knocking Sam Peter cold, people were saying he was gonna be a stiff test for Wlad.
From young contender with devastating KOs over 3 recent titlists to gatekeeper type taking short notice fights for peanuts
His heart seems gone. Likely has no faith in his body anymore. And the last 5 or so years must have been extremely frustrating. It can wear a man down.
Yes, I remember the injury as well, I simply don't know enough behind the injury/dispute to comment on it or take sides. But at the end of the day, it's Helenius who knows if he's injured or not, and his decision if he fights injured or not. Since trying to come back, it's not just his shoulder that is hampering him, its his team around him, lack of training and conditioning, and lack of commitment. At the end of the day, Helenius is simply happy to fight out of Tallin and turn himself into a stepping stone payday/replacement fighter for other potential contenders.
