    - KO'd three former titlists (Brewster, Peter, Liakhovich) in his first 16 fights

    - Beat future 2x title challenger Chisora (controversial SD)

    - KO'd three opponents as a clear, wide or massive underdog (Teper, Kownacki x2)

    - Fought former long-reigning titlists Wilder and Joshua within 10 months of each other at age 38/39

Sums it up, for me I will remember I'm being a promising up and coming heavyweight before a long hiatus and never reaching the heights that he had carved out on his way up. The Chisora fight dented his reputation and the Sherman Williams fight basically extinguished what was left

He was injured badly in the shoulder going into the Chisora fight, and his promotor coerced him into going though with it, if I remember correctly, and it messed him up for years. This was separate from his chronically broken right hand, and somewhere along the way, he got a terrible injury to his throat.

Was just not meant to be for the guy.

Obviously a dangerous fighter that was compromised a lot of the time.
A bit like Price, took fights for money where he wasn't in his best condition/form/years and paid for it. Whyte and AJ fights definitely.
At other times he easily handled some fighters who were on streaks, Fat Pole and Roid Kebab for instance, so he was a pretty good calibre HW really.

Meh. True but with a lot of context. He came along at a time when Klits were scraping the barrel and a lot of people wanted that big puncher out there to be a credible threat. He seemed to uniquely fit the bill as the brothers beat up on a mixture of talented little guys and bums.

Also, again, he night have done better if not for the horrific injuries.

I do agree though that anyone who still thought he was going to be a force after the Chisora fight...and they were out there....was nuts.

He was nothing special, but he was one of the best Europeans of his time.

I remember watching him live vs Yury Bykhautsou and he looked like a shadow of his former self. Managed to scrape together a BS 8 round split decision. 5 months later they had a rematch in Finland, which was downgraded to 6 rounds. Helenius was 34 at the time and he looked more like 44.

If it were not for the injuries and time off, he would have been a legitimate contender as at the time the division was very weak.
    Timeline of injuries:
2011 - Injured before the Chisora fight.
2012 - 11 months after the Chisora fight, Helenius returns to fave Tank Williams. Injured again either in the fight or shortly after.
2013 - 16 months after the Williams fight, Helenius finally returns to face Michael Sprott.
Now I am not bothered to look it up, but I think this is when Helenius started having problems with his promoter. So once again, lots of time off.
2015 - 2 years after the Sprott fight, Helenius makes his return vs Andras Csomor. Helenius is now 31.
Over the next 12 months. Helenius fights 4 times, culminating in a showdown with Johann Duhaupas.
Duhaupas KO´s him in the 6th.

This is the last fight Helenius looked good in. After this one, he was a very timid fighter which was especially noticeable vs White, Bykhautsou and Teper.

Good fighter, probably European level with a few good wins.

He could never be as good as the Americans like Klitschko, Fury, Joshua, Povetkin, etc. But a solid Euro-level fighter.

Watched the Kownacki fights and came away impressed. Little did I know that it was only because I bought some of the Kownacki hype and thought he was a decent heavyweight. Helenius has good punch but not a great chin and no speed or agility to speak of. He's a top 25or so HW at his peak.

Thank you…. The “he was a good European fighter” comments on here were really confusing me, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who found humor in it…

Euro-level and European fighter are not synonymous….

He was the 5th highest ranked challenger to Wlad by Ring before the Chisora fight and 6th after it. I think he was just outside the top 10 or perhaps just inside it with Transnational after he upset Kownacki. His peak rank with PBO was 5th and he was 12th going into the Wilder fight.

Kownacki 1 is probably his signature win, Helenius was a 20/1 underdog with some bookies. Kownacki was 20-0, coming off wins against Arreola and Martin, whereas Helenius had been KO'd by Washington for his 3rd defeat. Helenius turned up in shape, showed some resolve and outgunned Kownacki. It revived his career and led to the fights with Wilder and Joshua.

Teper wasn't on a streak at the time; he'd lost to Wach and Hammer in the two years prior and had no wins of note since before that. Helenius was a wide underdog against Teper largely because he'd got KO'd in 6 by Duhaupas, lost almost every round to Whyte and recently got a gift against an unknown journeyman. But Helenius showed he could take bad defeats in his stride and come back to upset the odds.
