What an unbelievable career. No shame in losing tonight in a division filled with big boys. Hang them up Cotto and enjoy your millions!

@ 154lbs none of his fights will be easy, even against any of the top 10 guys. He really doesn't need to "win" on his last bout. He has already showed the world what hes made out of, especially when he was at his best. Its done, no more to prove.

    Much respect.

He probably should retire. Trout did great but Cotto looked lethargic and uncoordinated. Pressed much harder against Floyd and boxed much much sharper against Margarito and Foreman.

I'm in total agreement. Cotto should call it a career. If he were to go ahead and get the Canelo fight, I think he'd be pummeled to the canvas and I sure as hell don't want to see him go out that way.

Fantastic career, but his time at the elite levels of the sport has come and gone. He looked really bad tonight just from a physical perspective, not to take away from Austin's showing.

His career towers over any of the top 10 contenders at 154lbs that would all give him a tough fight. He might win those, but he'd lose when he gets back into Floyd/Canelo/Trout etc type guys. So there is no point in it taking the damage just to "stick around" even as the great fighter he still is. Hes lost a step and is no longer close to his peak. In boxing the smartest thing for these guys to do is to leave when you are no longer at your peak. Especially when you are already rich lol.

Absolutely - there's no need for Cotto to be fighting the ESPN FNF's main event guys just to rack up a couple good wins hoping to legitimize a fight with one of the elites. At this point, every single fight is going to be detrimental to not only his short-term athletic form, but long-term health. I don't even think he'd have an easy time with some of the lower top 10 guys at the weight. He gets hit too much and is clearly slowing way down. Not worth it. Time to promote and invest his time in his family and other business ventures.

Tonight was kind of like a Morales-Raheem thing. I think Morales was a good deal better than Cotto at his peak, but it follows the script of a war-torn fighter (who really isn't that old age-wise) fighting north of his prime weights against stylistically difficult boxers. I don't expect Cotto to stick around like Morales, though.

Sad to see the end of his run as an elite and don't want to see him hang on too long. He looked like he was in water tonight. No need for another fight. Cotto fans love him for laying it all out time and again. He's spent.

Best wishes and hope to see you ringside.

Yeah, Cotto has received way too many beatings. Trout did not hurt him, but Pac and Margarito sure did.................
