This. . . Although since they are both not Americans, it won't really matter. . . Pirog has already travelled RIGHT INTO hostile territory, as a 4-1 'dog, to fight blue chip prospect, power-backed promotor jacobs. . . Being Russian and all, that took some balls to risk his 0 like that. . . Golovkin has yet to fight another guy in his home turf. . at least to my knowledge. . he fought in panama against ouma, but ouma isn't panamanian.
Not surprising with Sturm, but this is a great match and it's exactly what the fans of boxing want. I'm guessing a late stoppage win for Golovkin. :good
great fight. very surprised at it being made. I guess sturm wanted no part of golovkin. but, this is a much better fight as both are top flight.
Shame it's no unification fight. Stupid WBO. I thought that unification always comes before mandatories?
Not necessarily. . . The TV fight money HBO is offering up is probably more than they could make in Germany, or Russia. . Or at least it's close enough. . . Plus the exposure on HBO in USA, which is still considered the mecca of boxing, despite it not really being the case nowadays.
GGG isn't a huge name in Germany and has not TV station behind him since RTL is only showing Klitschko fights (it's in the contract). Pirog can sell out the Ice Palace in Moscow but Rossiya 2 isn't paying a lot of money either. So HBO is by far the best choice.
It's kind of a shame to have what might be the best two MWs fighting each other without any build up, in a foreign country, and in the month of August to boot. This fight is being setup for crap ratings when potentially could be a block buster. Should have them do a double header with Golovkin-Quillin and Pirog-N'Jikam.
Too many promotors to make this happen. . . Sounds great, of course. . . I'd rather see them fight sooner, rather than later. . Like in the old school. . A loss for either doens't mean much. . No excuses from either camp. . Both in physical primes. . We've seen what happens when you try to "build" a fight for too long.
