This is the 1st time in years that I have logged on here. I used to come to this forum when it was known as Eastsideboxing.com many years ago. I'm 67 years old now & my Dad was a Pro fighter back in the late 1920's (welterweight) in Elizabeth, N.J., thus, my interest in boxing from an early age. First time I heard of Golota was when he fought Danell Nicholson on HBO. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how solidly built he was & said "now, if only he knows how to throw good, technical punches". It didn't take me long to see that he knew what he was doing in the ring. Best jab, right hand in the Heavyweight Division at the time! But he also showed me a headbutt to Nicholson when Golota was winning the fight. WTF? Then came the Bowe fights & a title shot with Lennox Lewis, etc. It was many years of disappointments watching Golota. Probably the most talented HW to never win the Title. I am a self-taught artist & sold many boxing paintings to fans around the world, all right from this forum. Take a look at what I've painted & don't be afraid to show your friends. Maybe I should think about painting some more boxing subjects? I enjoy painting actor's, too. Old Timer's to this forum will remember me, but I see there are many new faces here that don't know me or my artwork. Here's my Blog & let me know what you think. Thanks, JETSKI (John) http://myartnsoul.blogspot.com/
Welcome back John, and while I might not remember you (as I may be newish), I'm glad you've made it back. We are always in need of people who love boxing and know boxing, and it sounds like you fit that bill. BTW Impressive work with the paintings. Great job!!
67 years old huh? You’re just a youngster compared to some of the old timers around here like Perry who remembers Dempsey when he was just a railway hobo.
Thanks! If only I could paint non stop. Thats the only way to really get good. Yes, the year you joined, 2011 was pretty much when I did my last boxing painting for someone here at the forum. I went back to work full time & my energy to paint deminished. About knowing boxing (don't tell anyone, but) I actually watch more UFC these days!
I'm trying real hard to remember these names...your's is not ringing a bell. But my memory is not what is once was!
Perry must be 90 or 95 yrs old. My Dad died in Dec. 2000. Funny you mention Hobo's. Before my Dad married my Mom, he told her he had to ride the boxcar's to California & back, something he always wanted to do. And he did exactly that! My Mom told me she thought she would never see him alive again. But he made the trip OK. Lost 30 lbs in the process!
