    Hi

I'm pretty new to boxing, and very new to this board, so I thought I would say hello to everyone. I've been looking around the board for a few days and there seem to be some really knowledgeable people here. I apologise in advance for the stupid questions that I'm sure I'll end up asking you all from time to time.

In surfing a few threads I've noticed a lot of people asking 'have I started to late to make it as a pro' type questions. Now, I'm purely boxing for fun and for fitness, but I also like a bit of a challenge. I have come to wondering whether I would be able to compete at a decent amateur level, even just for one or two fights, to really test myself. The following information should help you decide if I have a shot:

1 - I'm very new to boxing (been training for one month now) but I do have a background in several other martial arts so I'm not completely new to things like defence and footwork.

2 - I would rate my current physical condition as 'above average' but not 'great'. I cycle everywhere (50km per week), train a couple of times a week, and play 90 minutes of football (soccer for you Americans) a week, but other than trying to 'eat right' I've not paid too much attention to my diet.

    3 - I turn 30 next month.

So what do you say? Do I maybe have a couple of fights in me or is it time for me to start working on my 'I coulda been a contender' speech? All opinions welcome.

My situation is somewhat similar to yours. I started perhaps a year and a half before I turned 30, but my shape was horrible (more than 40 pounds overweight thanks to quitting smoking) and I had no sports background of any sorts in the recent past. At your age I had made up for most of that I think, and I started taking it more seriously. Had my first fight a few weeks before turning 33, did 6 of them so far and have a few more left before the age limit stops me.

Whether you have fights left in you depends on many things but your age should not stop you. Go for it mate. And welcome to the board.

Anybody can fight within a year or less. If you put in work, you can definitely have more than a couple fights. I say go for it.

i've been training for a few months and i want to fight when my endurance is up to level, my trainer says i could fight right now; and i dont think i'm extraordinary. you just have to like ifhting so whether you ko the guy or get whooped you will be happy. you learn more from losing than winning apparently. its good practice for real self-defence situations, mentally

With only a few months training and sub-par endurance, my trainer would definitely not let you fight unless you're very extraordinary.
