this whole thing has never been explained, not at least from what i've read. Bute had his last couple of fights on Showtime (Shobox) before the Super Six. And then, all of a sudden, he's not invited. But i think it had to do more with promotional issues than anything. All of the 6 are solid. Taylor got in on name and was making the most money. Kessler, Froch, Abraham all logical. So it comes to Ward and Dirrell, but both guys that have been doing fighting on Showtime. So, who would you drop? Money had to have been a factor, especially with HBO looming to buy a Bute fight as they did.
I think Bute has looked it over, thought about it, and realised going into the super six is a sure-fire way of taking alot more punishment in his career than he needs to. He'll bide his time, and face off with the winner - Frazier-Ellis style.
It was a while ago (and the super six seemed to come along out of nowhere) but I believe it had more to do with a mandated title shot against Andrade. Bute and Andrade had some squabbles over when the title shot would take place, they wound up going to purse bid and GBP won. The fight then seemingly migrated over to HBO as apart of the Maquez vs PBF undercard. Once that seemed out of the question, it got its own date on HBO. Least that's how my hazy memory remembers it.
there's really no doubt, from a financial perspective, that as a figher you'd much rather be in with HBO. Showtime puts on some great cards, but the purse difference is substantial. HBO just has such a bigger audience.
Agreed. HBO also normally does more for advertising and promotion when it comes to helping promoters. Not to mention, Showtime has a vested interest in MMA as well. HBO is and will likely always will be a boxing network so you're guaranteed some semblance of top banana status.
It's already been agreed that the winner of Green-Bika will replace Taylor in the Super Six. No place for Bute.
Bute is No. 1 SMW after The Ring and Box Rec. He doesn`t need to enter Super 6. A champ doesn`t enter the back door of a competition after Direll or Taylor. He is the man and wait and will see him fighting the best . HE SAID HE WISHES THIS NOW.
Yes according to the Ring and box rec he is the man, I guess if AA, Ward or Froch beat Bika, Tatevosyan and Andrade twice they become THE MAN! Pure talent he is up there, no doubt, but resume wise he is not no 1.
it's all good Bute can do one better by continuing his winning ways until the super six is over and then he can fight the winner and if he wins be considered the best without bgoing through the trouble of this tournamaent where any top level fighter has the chance of losing any given fight.
Bute has never faced an elite level fighter, not even a guy that is on Taylors levels. I think that too many have been fooled by the rematch with Andrade. Bute is fastly becoming the most over rated fighter on this site.
Sauerland made damn sure there was never a spot for anyone who would be favored over Abraham and/or Kessler. He screwed up by letting Ward in, but Kessler was clearly favored to beat Ward. I'm amazed that people cannot, or simply will not, see that Sauerland set this thing up to show case his two fighters against guys they were clearly favored to beat.
Are you implying that an Abraham fan wants to talk about resume's? I've got Arthur's in a text file. Care to go over it?
keep bute out of it....put pavlik or green in and then it will set up a big fight for the supersix winner v bute.
