Hello all, I am new to this site, just joined 3 or 4 days ago. I have been on the site for a little under a month now, just a spectator. I would like to sort of start off by asking you guys a question so I can become more educated in the boxing world. As we all know, the majority of people believe Manny Pacquiao has solidify his claim to be the best pound for pound fighter after defeating David Diaz. I give a lot of props to Pacquiao fans, from what I understand he started at 107 and has moved all the way up to 130 without loseing any of his ablitiy to compete and destory opponets. So my question is In your opinion what do you think Palvik needs to do in order to become the best pound for pound fighter in the world? Givin that Joe Calzaghe does not want to fight kelly for what ever reason, what is it going to take for him to get respect. I do not believe fighting (must beat him as well) Arthur Abraham will give Palvik that fight he needs to become the best pound for pound fighter.

Let me know what you guys think.

He does need to fight Abraham. Thats important for his 160 legacy. Then depending who is dominant at 168 he would need to fight them. Then finally the guys at 175. There is no set formula & obviously we cant predict what fighters will be around in the future, but staying undefeated & beating quality opposition will be paramount for a man with a limited skill set to become p4p number one.

I think Pavlik needs too beat Abraham, Kessler, Bute , Winky and Calzaghe too become the clear pound for pound over the Packman:deal Still think Pavlik is gonna get at Joe Calzaghe in 2009 there is just too much money to be made in that fight for Joe too turn down:thumbsup

I said he had a limited skill set, which he does, although he did show a greater variety in his last fight admittedly but that was against Gary Lockett.

May I kindly ask why he has a limited skill set in your opinion dan-b

My bad trying to understand this site and the quote thing.. but...

Why do you feel that he has a limited skill set?

He doesn't have the all round skills of a Floyd Mayweather who had the footwork, distance & timing to go with every punch in the book. Pac is also limited in that sense but is still the consensus number one so its not a prerequisite.

If he beats Abraham, then cleans out 168 and 175 he would become either #1 or #2, depending on what Cotto does, or someone else for that matter.

Pavlik lacks the "flash" that is needed to be P4P king. He handles his business then goes home.

Tru, I think that it will take kelly alot more to become a p4p king because of that lack of "flash" that is needed. So he will have to keep up his undefeated streak and beat quality opponets. May not be flashy but he gets the job done, isnt that what he need to become a great one... Just contiuneing to beat opponents?
