Hey, I'm a new guy and a old guy. I stumbled onto the site looking for some beginner information. I'm not a boxer persay, but I enjoy the sport. I hope that being member will provide me with useful tips and information. A little back ground for anyone that might offer some help. I'm a 61' model, been running consitently for about 10 years. I was in and out of Tae Kwan Do for a few years. Recently added boxing for the core. I have a 75lb heavy bag, added a speed bag for 08 (this will be interesting) and a rope. My rountine is very basic right now, but I'm looking to expand it.
u can ask me nething...i'm not usually on here a lot though so it might be under ur best interest to private message me
Sorry, been out town for a while. No, I live in a small rual town, so no clubs close by. I wish there were. That's the primary reason I wound up in TKD. There are at least (3) black belt instructors here in town. Problem with the local TKD clubs, there filled with mostly children.
if u are a 1961, you r my age...i also am fairly new to boxing; decided to join a gym several months ago; took 10 private sessions with a top trainer, then sparred w/ the boxing team there several times. it was excellent...it may be a long drive 4 u, but i feel it would pay to find a good gym and do the same; i went 1/ week, and trained on what i learned the rest of the week. at the end of the 10, my cardio and skills were enough to join the sparring team for a month, and truly get the feel...there is no substitue for actually fighting. after that great adventure, i enjoy watching boxing to a much higher degree, and my self-training is more fruitful. perhaps you can also get a relationship with the gym trainer to occasionally get in random sparring sessions to keep improving. i plan on doing this myself. do your home training same as a bout; an intense 3 minutes followed by 1 min. rests....helpful not just for boxing, but well proven to be more effective for cardio than prolonged lower intensity training.
