im a 5'7 12 stone pressure fighter. iv got no problems on my attack and pilling on pressure but if im fighting a tall rangy fighter thats busy and counters alot i struggle. i find it real hard to get back in without getting hit alot. i know smaller fighter have to sometimes just brave a few shouts to get in but what style of fighter would you say is the best to try and emulate. iv been trying the head movement of joe frazier but i dont think it works for me.
Look at fighters with a tight defence like Winky and Ike Quartey. Thats ur starting point from there, then look at effective methods of closing range. I know lots but i'm not going to stick them on here.
Mike Tyson was a master at cutting of the ring, closing the distance and getting inside to put the pressure on. Frazier and Tua of course, are good examples. You might watch the Tua vs. Oquendo fight to see a good example of the short guy being out boxed most of the fight but coming back and KO'ing his opponent by getting inside. Hatton is an inside pressure fighter of small stature, and had moments where he did a good job of closing the gap with Mayweather.
If the Joe Fraizer slipping doesnt work for you their are some other option. You can try to bob and weave of tyson. Hagler is another another short tight defence fighter. He comes in very tight (unlike Frazier who was more lose looking to throw big hooks) and once hes inside you can see marvelous start to get his shots in.
