Different planes of movement as in being strong in multiple directions. No not just punching endurance that's just part of the puzzle

I see what you mean. Personally I would rather do compound lifts because they train the whole body, and a punch is the result of several muscles acting together, eg the posterior chain. With dumbbells you're just training isolated muscles which I feel don't contribute much to punching power.

You can't squat or deadlift with dumbbells? Dumbbells just add resistance the same as a barbell. Why do you think there's any difference?

Well yes you can but not with the same weight. You can't squat as heavy because you don't have the barbell loaded on your back so you're not recruiting as many muscle fibres and not maximising power.

Same with dumbbells. TBH I'm not very strong and a relatively small guy but the dumbbells in my gym don't go high enough for deadlift. Also the dumbbells go a lot lower on the ground than barbells so you could hurt your back by over extending.

In summary you can't lift as heavy so you're not getting near as much benefit.
