I've been working with another poster on some research into the history of Russian boxing pre soviet union. I'm not sure how public he wants to be with it so I'll not name him but I'm pretty sure he's probably feeling about the same as me presently, won't mind, and if he wants it public knowledge he'll pop by. Neither one of us speak or read Russian worth half a damn. I mean I am picking up characters here and there by translating with god awful google, but context is everything and the translations by google and babble etc just are not bringing solid context or narrative. What it comes down to in the end is are these chronicles mentioning boxing as in the tradition and culture that came from Greece that was morphed into the Russian version like England or are they mentioning boxing as in some form of fist fighting happened in Russia whose closest relative is boxing but it was independently developed without knowledge of the Greek sport or culture. Well in my opinion anyway. That's what I am hunting. It hasn't happened yet, but it seems like without a native or at least someone comfortable with the language me and my partner may end up disagreeing with our individual interpretations of the translations and neither person be actually correct. I'm not sure he'd respect an interpreter's interpretation over his own, but I would and I think he would, and even if he wouldn't I'd still very much appreciate someone working with me to get these chronicles looked at by entities like IBRO or CBZ or to tell me not to waste my time because I've massively misunderstood. It's not my goal to tell people what I think maybe, it is my goal to tell people what I know definitely. If the source is shakey let it be shaky, but I should have understanding enough to explain it and why it is shakey, dig? Unfortunately I am not a rich man, this would be a service you do just because you think it's something that should be done. I'm not offering a paying gig I'm asking for help, charity. Also, if anyone else wants to jump in and show us what they find on their own research it would be gladly accepted on my end.
