    Hey,
I would appreciate some sound advice! I have tried other forums but got little back.
Surely theres somebody who can point me in the right direction here?! Pleaseee
I want to get back into shape. I’m well overweight at 120kg and 5’7 although I do still have some
muscle although well hidden) from my bodybuilding days. 8 years- was big and cut.
But there lies the problem, I’m used to training with weight to failure, very intense and short and only
hitting a body part once a week and sometimes once every ten days. A small amount of cardio each
day and a very strict high protein diet. When it comes to other sports like boxing I don’t have a clue.
My goal: I have no desire to put on any muscle. I would like to keep what muscle I have and get
    ripped to the bone!
Will boxing reduce my muscle if my diets good?
If I lose some muscle while boxing will this slow down my metabolism and stop my body burning fat?
Can I work weights into my workout?
Do I need to hit the body parts more than once a week, when I am weight training (as I am not
    breaking the muscle down)
I suppose the overall question is can I get into awesome shape with the right mindset, diet and
    training with boxing?
From my body building days I learnt less is sometimes more. For example training was very hard but
    very quick-small duration.
I have the time now to train 6 days a week(2.5 hrs a day) I assume boxers train much longer than
    bodybuilders)
Where can I get sample work out plans with weights worked in to these plans?
    Thanks for any advice:

First thing I got to say is start running long distances to lose weight and once you get more fit, start running sprints and doing HIIT(high intensity interval training) to gain stamina and lose fat.
Tabatas and other HIIT will let you lose weight while keeping your muscle and it speed up your metabolism.
I don't know how to really answer all your other questions, but if you have the right diet and box then you for sure will lose weight.

Why do you think you have to run long distance to lose weight? Eating less and working out will cause weight loss. Calories in vs calories out.

why do you think he said you have to run long distances?

not that im actually considering answering your question but if you read his post right after he RECCOMENDS running long distances to lose weight he also infers that it will get you in better shape for running sprints and hiit.

notice the overraction and the conclusion that some ones telling him to do something...thats the roids talking.

Notice how Ylem tries to ruin yet another thread by starting pointless **** with me yet again...

That is not a "I think this is the best thing to do" that's obviously how he thinks you lose weight. It will burn fat as well as muscle. Not the best but if that's what the OP wants, go for it.

And running long distance does not give you the ability to run sprints better, running sprints helps you run sprints better.

what ever you say, though i would lay off the roids.

do fast twitch muscles even use fat as a fuel?

and an arobic base does help you start sprinting with fewer injuries as well as allow you to recover more quickly between sprinting. sure its not going to make you faster or help you sprint over a longer distance.....no ones arguing that.

This doesn't even make sense. What are you going on about?

Point is an aerobic base is not needed at all. If that's the only advantage "it helps with recovery" there's no need for that base as doing sprints (however intense for the individual) is far more effective at building recovery than long distance.

Makes it even more pointless to do then wouldn't you say?

If you want to argue the point further http://www.defrancostraining.com/index.php. I'm sure Joe would be happy to set you straight.

really thats not the point, the point is that no ones saying you have to run long distances to lose weight despite how you feel like interpreting the post.

my own opinion for burning fat would be a 5 min warm up at like 3.5 then alternating 1 min walking at 4 then 1 min at 4.5 then 1 min at 4 then 1 min at 5 then 1 min at 4 then 1 min at 5.5 then 1 min at 4 then 1 min at 6 ect increasing by .5 till you max out. then do it again till you max out.

and really none of it has to do with calories in calories out but that hiit tends to i guess "boost your metabolism" for up to 24 hours after doing it.

Weight loss is not about calories? Okay.

I couldn't be bothered to argue with you and ruin yet another thread because you have some problem with me.

And just to let you know, roid rage is a myth.

i cant find the article but i read one once that HIIT training is actually more effective for weight loss than LSD. thats a bit sketchy though sorry! anyone else have any info on this. The most i run now personally is 30 mins but i make it as intense as possible

    You're right about HIIT.
Now the reason I told him to run long distances first is because I don't know what type of shape he's in and it may be dangerous for him to put his heart through that type of strain. To me I think running long distances is better for obese people and HIIT is better for more fit athletes who are trying to lose the few extra pounds or who are trying to gain some stanima w/o losing strength.

P.S. Both will help you lose weight. Running for a long time in your target heart rate will use fat as fuel and you'll burn fat while running. With sprinting and other HIIT, you lose the weight after you workout and it speeds your metaolism up and increases your HGH levels

Honestly bud, you're about 50kg overweight... it'll take a long time to lose that, so don't rush anything. If you try to pull a greatest loser and lose it all at once you'll have yards of loose skin.

2-3 lbs a week should be the max you lose. You're looking at a 1-2 year process at best. Training 6 times a week is admirable, but it's hard to sustain over years. My advice it to take a long hard look at your diet, and make it a lifestyle change.

I dunno, mate. Ylem likes to start BS for no reason. Just ignore him.

The post above about taking it slowly is good advice. When I used to train people at the gym they would complain that they only lost 2 pounds in a week, but that's about right. Idiotic shows like Biggest loser make people think losing 5-10 pounds a week is a good target.

    well, i appreciate the advice,
from my body-building days i can remember that losing more than2-3 pounds a week would probably result in muscle loss.

I am afraid I am not clear on how long to train and the rest of the topic.

but im going to seek help elsewhere.

    thanks for yourhelp
