Well, Archie Moore actually claimed the title in 1955 when he defeated Nino Valdes and was recognized as champion by Nevada. Moore claimed the title again when he defeated James J Parker in 1956. Later of course he defended the lightheavy title several times. Moore's claims, of course, were not generally recognized.
