I really need some help with my boxing defense. I don't have anybody to train with because everybody I know is either uninterested or busy. I spar once or maybe if I'm lucky twice a week because theres only one guy that I can train with at my gym. I built a maize bag in my room with my speed bag from my backyard, some rope, and just nailed it to the top of my ceiling. I use it twice everyday for about 25-35 minutes. I wouldn't say that its worthless (or else I wouldn't use it at all) but sometimes I just feel like I'm going through the motions. It definitely helps me get used to the motions in countering, bobbing ,weaving, and slipping punches but thats about it. I know that in a real fight punches are not thrown nearly as slow as when I'm dodging the maize bag. Is there any variation that I can make of this? I tried to put a fan behind the maize bag so it would be harder to dodge but it didnt have enough power. Any ideas are welcome.

Don't know if this will work but,

how about a shorter length of rope that attaches from the ceiling to the maize bag? The longer the rope, the longer the bag has to travel away from you. Your going to need a platform to raise yourself higher, or find a lower ceiling, doorway, tree branch etc etc to make this work. Hope my description made sense.

    Here's a suggestion:

Have your training partner throw jabs/crosses/hooks at you while you try to slip/roll with them.
Have him go slow at first and then build up speed.

In my experience this has helped me immensely with my slipping/bobbing/rolling abilities.

Nope, like I said everybody I know is either uninterested or busy doing other things. I don't really even care if the suggestions don't help specifically on slipping punches ect. Just anything that would help reaction time in general would be good.

I think Mister T has the right idea. Also beating the game "Fight Night" for the Xbox 360 on the masters level difficulty should be helpful!
