My girlfriend just purchased two jump ropes for me online at 8 feet in length but I'm not sure if she should have got them in a 9. My rope is not around for me to measure so I just needed others opinion. I am 5 foot 7. Thanks so much.

The way I was taught about rope length was to stand on the middle of the rope with one foot, hold the handles together and when the rope is pulled tight it should be just under or at armpit level.

I'm 5' 9" and the rope I have is 9 ft. long. If my feet are shoulder width and I'm standing on the rope, my arms are just below my waist at my sides with my arms slightly bent. I don't use my arms much to turn the rope but rather rely on my wrists to provide the rolling motion to keep the rope turning. You really don't want the rope too long so that it slaps the ground or you have to hold your hands higher than what is comfortable to maintain a good pace.

The rope I use has swivels in the handles and is made of leather. I find them much better than the nylon rope jump ropes. But that is my personal preference.

Thanks y'all. I was able to change my order to a 9 foot rope because I am pretty sure that the rope I have now is about 8 feet, and it feels a bit short for me.

Rope length is tricky, but for your height 8 should be fine. It depends more on your skipping routine and skill level than optimal rope length. Whatever you do make sure you get a heavy pvc rope with bearing handles for indoors and a beaded rope for outdoors.

If you are an animal AND don't mind spending? Stand on them and cut them when the handle reaches your nipple. Fast turns, high speed... and every rope that snaps at the handle becomes trash!

If you are an animal AND broke? Cut it a little below the shoulder or get it right out of the box. You will adjust to the length. Skip until it shreds at the handle. Rebuild it and start again.

If you are blah? Cut it anywhere between your nipple and arm pit and have at it.

I had a 9 foot rope and am 6'3. It was too short for me but long enough that I could just get away with it. It was only clearing the top of my head by about an inch and caught every now and then. 9.5 or 10 feet would be a lot better
