I've recently started getting back into boxing again and I've noticed I keep over extending my right hand when punching, putting me off balance slightly. However, I'm fine when throwing the punch when I can see myself in a mirror during shadow boxing.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how to stop myself over extending the punch each time?

Need a video. It may be your right foot position or you are bending your body forward too much or even your shoulder movemet during the punch, so I won't state anything without seeing t.

I'm no expert but it sounds like a depth perception problem...assuming that you're throwing the punches correctly. The better you get at judging distance, the less you'll have to overextend when throwing a punch.

Make sure your knee does not go past 12 o clock when pivoting.

You are trying to punch with your arm. Focus more on the pivot and turning your hip, let your arm come out naturally and keep your torso straight.
