Hi could anyone with any experience tell me what the 'average' weight class for a 5 foot 6 165cm male would be. I know its not too important but on average what weight class do you think I fit into?

Yeah, this gets asked quite a lot and you will never get a straight answer. And for good reason. Like these guys said, it all depends on your build and overall ability.

Now since you are strictly asking about "average" (rather than, what weight should I be in) - I don't think it's an unreasonable question.

I would say most guys 5" 6 are likely bantamweights, to light welterweights (115-139 lbs). That's just a guess off the top of my head.

    What's your build?

Dwight Muhammad Qawi was a lean and mean lhw at 175, and even as a cruiser he wasn't really fat, he was 5'5.

Danny Williams didn't even need to sweat much as a welter and he was 6'1.
