You don't have to stop taking Creatine. It won't hurt. It will help with your workout but not the way that you may think as far as "energy." What I was trying to say, although maybe poorly, is to know what it can and cannot do. It does give a "type" of energy, from something called ATP, which effects the anaerobic and lactic oxidative energy systems. Boxing is a sport that requires the majority of it's energy from the aerobic energy system, and secondary the anaerobic. Again, I am not advocating against it.

actually I would argue that amatuer boxing is more anaerobic than aerobic. 3 rounds of higher paced action.

I used to think this too. But what I found in researching this is that the anaerobic energy system depletes so quickly, and the aerobic energy system is still the base. In looking at energy expenditure graphs for combat sports, rarely does the heart rate rise above anaerobic threshold, thus maintaining the primary energy system being aerobic. When it does it goes back down in seconds because it can't sustain energy for very long. This is why threshold training can be so important for a sport such as boxing. If one thinks about the anaerobic system it can provide energy for only several seconds, lactic oxidative for approximately 30 seconds. Joel Jamieson of 8weeksout.com (although is an MMA trainer) has helped change alot of my views as well as Lyle McDonald at bodyrecomposition. The aerobic system I think still supplies the majority of the energy, even in amateur boxing.

I agree that amateur boxing can rely more on the anaerobic system, specifically lactic than pro bouts for obvious reasons.

Check out those two websites and see what you think. Know that I enjoy this kind of friendly debate and in no way have to be right or am trying to be difficult. Sometimes it is hard to convey this over a post.:thumbsup

of course the aerobic system is the basis of effective respiration. I agree completely.

However, it is my opinion that amatuer boxing is like doing shuttle runs. periods of 'sprints' followed by periods of less intense movement. You can't go balls out the whole fight but the exchanges themselves rely more on anaerobic fitness.

This being said if you don't have good (aerobic) cardio you are absolutely ****ed.

I am surprised to hear that you can't find a boxing gym in Mumbai !! Mumbai is a huge city, i am sure there must be some good boxing gym. I think that coach is using your age as excuse, 24 is late but not too late. I started few months back & i am 25. But there is no professional approach to this sport over here, training is very poor & we have to learn from tutorial videos on youtube. Try to Google it and keep on searching, visit some karate dojo & you can ask to them, they might guide you. You can even go to Gold's gym or at talwalkar, but i don't think they allow sparring & they are very costly too. Secondly as u have mentioned that ur doing conditioning and have been into power lifting and u used to be gymnast, i think you must be physically fit. Will ask to my coach about boxing gym in Mumbai when he will return from Common wealth games. Keep it up friend, and all the best for your Marathon. Here is the link if you are interested in MMA http://www.tigersgym.com/index1.html... Not sure but think it's the only one in our country. Sad our government should help promoting boxing
and other Martial arts, they only give importance to cricket :patsch Will give you update as soon as my coach returns.
