Had my first sparring session today for 5 month, my technique is very good on bags pads etc but in sparring it goes out the window, is it just that i need to spar more and eventually it will come? also my style im not sure what style i am ano it develops but im fast use my jab should i jst have a tight guard? thanks for the help guys :thumbsup
you need to spar more, if you never sparred before its nothing wrong that your technique goes out the window and relax, thats crucial! cheers
Keep working, gets easier every time you spar. Work with guys that want to go lighter sparring since your just starting to spar, then work your way up to harder shots. Don't worry if you get beat up for your first times sparring, I got beat up for a good couple weeks before I started giving my teammates a decent fight in there. Work on things you need to work on in there and communicate with your partner. After every sparring session, I like breaking down the good and the bad I did with my sparring partner, coach, and other teammates observing. Helps you pick up the little things. And like captain hook said above...relax. if you relax, you let your shots go more and you can fight for much longer. Good luck!
You answered your own question there:good. It will come to you, as one of the other posters said, dont worry about being beat up the first couple of times you spar. Just keep at it, trust me. I remember back when i first started sparring, there was this one lad who loved giving me a battering every session, but i just loved it, and kept coming back. Once i picked it up, it was the other way around, and trust me, it feels amazing.
thanks was huge help, i love getting beat up anyways lol ive sparred around 10 times but that was ages ago, just got keep working at it, thanks for the help
one more thing what about style? i feel more relaxed with hands lower but obviously im not at the level to do that should i just keep nice tight guard and keep it simple?
if you have your hands lower, you need to have nice sliping technic and you must be a fast counter puncher, because lower hands are harder to see. its ok to experiment with this, but if you are not experienced have your guard nice and tight as you said
To be honest at the moment mate i'd just keep a nice tight guard. Once you've got all the basics, and your technique down while sparring and feel comfortable while doing it, you can start to worry about your style a bit more.
