Yeah, probably not the best gameplan. He's a top notch wrestler, and I'm not convinced Silva is really that good on the ground. Granted, he choked out Lutter, and he knows some jiu jitsu. But Hendo has been in with better jits guys than Silva, and I'd like to think he learned a thing or two from his battles with Little Nog. So, I think Hendo could overpower Silva on the ground. Standing, I don't like his chances nearly as much. He's got a heck of a chin and a sledgehammer right hand. But he doesn't have the dimensions, angles nor the speed of Silva. Should be a hell of a match either way. I'm looking forward to it.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. If Hendo can get Silva to the ground, he could pound out a decision - but if it stays standing - Silva should pick Dan apart. My heart is with Henderson, but Silva continues to impress. I am very much looking forward to it.
I don't think its exactly a "bad" plan. I think it's one of the option he can go about. That is, of course, if he's going to dirty-box-Couture-style him. If he just going in there to bang I'll doubt his success.
I'm pretty confident Hendo will win, here is why.. He's fighting in a cage, while Silva is good at keeping the distance, he is still vulnerable to the takedown and relies on a pretty good guard in those situations.. Problem is, he has never fought anyone as strong, or as stubbourn to submit as Henderson. Watch the big Nog rematch, Hendo is FREAKY strong, and FREAKY hard to submit. His strength is on par with any light heavies, actually stronger than most. Remember, this is a cage. Anderson can bang out knees in the clinch, but Henderson was able to deal with Wanderlei, and has experience against a thai clinch. This means, the ONLY place Silva has any sort of big advantage over Henderson is from range where he is very dangerous, but then he's fighting a guy with a great chin, and just as dangerous a striker once in range himself.. Once the fight goes to the ground, Henderson has the advantage. Once the fight goes to the clinch, Henderson has the advantage, as he can overpower and take down Silva.. Mid range, its pretty even. In the end, I don't see why Henderson is the underdog. Henderson has seen the thai clinch, has been in with very dangerous strikers, and has been in with the best heavyweight Jiu Jitsu fighter in the world, and actually hung well with him! Silva on the other hand has never fought anyone as strong, or game on the ground as Henderson. Sure, Silva is a dynamic striker and knockout artist, but its not like Henderson hasn't been tagged by guys with just as much power. Henderson, imo has some deffinate advantages here due to expeirence, and competing against larger opponents that would be just as dangerous.
