He just never stopped...ever. There isn't another fighter I've seen who can match him for that kind of unrelenting pressure. Great chin, great puncher, good head movement, immense strength, awkward, and a terror up close. He beats most throughout history, and gives hell to anyone. Easy top 5 ATG.
he just dosent stop does he but what surprised me was his physical strength against Garcia for the MW title he was pushing him around
Loved him, just so you know, I recorded the fight with Ross for you, and your list only has 4 or 5 more fights left to record. cant record now, bad storm. The guy never stops, amazing fighter, the perfect swarmer.
Ross hands down, Sure people may say Garcia, but here in the first 4 or 5 rounds, Ross is moving jabbing, and relly hard to catch, than Armstrong overwhelms Ross, pins him on the ropes, working on his body and working his way up to head, thowing over 100 punchings a round. On the same token, one truly sees Ross's iron chin, (Never ko), No Armstrong did not carry Ross, Armstrong in round 15 was teeing off on Ross, and stagger Ross tough out the late rounds. It was one of the worse beatings Ross goting. And this was a fellow top ten pound for pounder imo, that Armstrong beat. Closes we got of 2 truly great pound for pounders fighting each other.
Henry Armstrong was like if you made a little man-sized robot and put it in a ring and programmed it to do nothing more than punch the ass out of people. That's what I think of whenever I watch his fights.
I've recently been watching more Armstrong films myself. The thing that impresses me is that he always put himself in the most advantageous position when fighting. Armstrong would crowd in on the other fighter generally on that opponent's left side, by doing this he doesn't meet the usually larger opponent straight on, and by crowding the left side, he effectively takes away an opponent's jab. If that opponent attempts to extend that left hand, he gets hammered repeatedly by Armstrong's short right hands. Add to that the ability to close distance very quickly, inhuman stamina, and a very rough fighting style, he is hard to beat. If a fighter doesn't possess a very good reverse gear, in order to maintain distance, Armstrong gives them major problems. You don't out fight Henry Armstrong.
Probably quite underrated as a puncher, mainly due to the fact we have none (or perhaps just one) of his knockouts on film, just points victories.
