Henry Armstrong the greatest fighter p4p of all-time ?

Does anyone here rate Armstrong at number 1 ?

How did his fight with Sugar Ray go, and how would he have done against Sugar Ray if he had been at his peak ?

The only knock on Armstrong I can see is he lacked longevity in the sense that his peak only lasted 3 or 4 years at the most. But I reckon he made up for this with an incredible level of activity.
His accomplishments are almost unparalleled. Holding the feather, welter and light championship all at the same time beggars belief. And these were not the paper titles we see guys picking up nowadays.

On top of this, I love Armstrong's style. It's pressure boxing in its purest form.

Who's the other candidate for your number 2 ?

 

Yeah i like Armstrong, cracking champion. Personally i have SRR at no 1 with Armstrong at no 2, but i doubt you'd be called a idiot for having Armstrong at no 1, you could have a good case for it.

I think Greb, Armstrong and Robinson are probably the best picks for those top 3 positions.

 

I am looking into Benny Leonard's credentials for pound-for-pound greatest. The man was amazing.

My top 5 candidates so far are Langford, Greb, Leonard, Armstrong & Robinson.

I'm not sure about Langford, since I'm starting to think he wasn't always the "small guy" in those "heavyweight" battles he had. I think he was a pretty big 180 - 200 pound puncher in a lot of his wins, and that might effect a part of his claim to being "pound-for-pound" the greatest. I need to research some more.

I'm a bit unfamiliar with the light-heavyweight division at the time he won that title. I think most fighters over 160 at that time were still gunning for heavyweight honours ?
Still, I cannot really argue.
I think Greb and Langford were a bit unlucky to have been avoided and/or stuck in no-decision bouts by the champions of their day. Their vast resumes are better than Fitz's, IMO.
