Armstrong didn't duck anyone....and if he chooses, he could come in at any WW weight he wants to, as soon as he sizes up Floyd as an "opponent". Armstrong in a close decision.

I don't see Armstrong getting the stoppage TBH. Floyd had a solid chin and great defence, hard to get a KO.

Floyd dances and evades Armstrong’s smothering style. Idk guy had a plan for EVERYTHING at his peak. Not a shot at Armstrong who was great just think Floyd’s only tough competition would have been the quicker guys at that weight.

Armstrong would outwork, and rough up Floyd. Likely a decision win.

I lean towards Armstrong as well but remain undecided. But why would Floyd try to or have to go Armstrong’s pace? To me that would be as arrogant and foolish (Floyd might be arrogant but not foolish) as SRLs strategy in Montreal. Floyd would look to slip and give and take away angles (not easy by any stretch) against Henry. He would need to counter and make Henry hesitant to force the action (again not an easy task) and capitalize with counters making him pay when he does.

I still think Armstrong likely takes a decision but not sure Floyd would change very much in his approach.

Armstrong wins but Floyd may well go the distance.

I think this is a really decent matchup at welterweight. I'd certainly pick Armstrong because I like him to outwork Mayweather but I'd be fascinated to see how Floyd reacted to the challenge. I think it goes to points but Hank would outhustle May for the win.

9 pounds is a lot at those lower weights and count for more than people think.

@WW I'll go with a UD Armstrong. Lighter I'd lean towards a TKO. You also need a ref that doesn't pull them apart as soon as Hank is within breathing distance.

    Armstrong over 12 / 15.
Skilled, tenacious and a bad style match up for Floyd.

Armstrong fought the best fighters in the Lightweight-Welterweight Divisions.....such as Robinson, Zivic, Garcia, Jenkins, Ambers, Beau Jack, Ross, Jackie Burke, etc.

It took that grade of fighter to be competitive with, or beat Armstrong. All of those fighters would have given Mayweather, Jr. a very hard time too.

An example of what Zivic said after beating Armstrong for the WW title in late 1940:
"Post fight comment: "Armstrong hits surprisingly hard, but those bolo punches hurt him more than any of his punches hurt me. Every time I landed one of them I noticed that right away his punches lost steam. He's the gamest guy I ever saw." - Fritzie Zivic "

1940-10-04 : Henry Armstrong 142 lbs lost to Fritzie Zivic 145½ lbs by UD in round 15 of 15
"Henry Armstrong lost his welterweight title after 15 of the most vicious rounds ever fought but he lost like a true champion should. There was no doubt as to the victor. The crowd sensed as early as the 10th round that a new champion was in the making but that crowd stayed to cheer the game little fellow who gave it all he had and still lost. For the first seven rounds they stood head to head with Henry banging away from outside and Fritzie stabbing, cutting and slashing at Henry's eyes. Henry was on his way out as early as the 8th round when Zivic, fighting a cool, heady battle, cut both of the fading champion's eyes and never let up banging away at them. In ten different rounds Fritzie knocked the rubber mouthpiece from Henry's mouth. Zivic did just what he said he'd do--cut the old scar tissue over Henry's eyes, blind him and then finish. Then came the final round and Zivic stood off and banged Henry at will. Just before the bell, Zivic landed a corking right and Henry went down on his ear just as the bell rang." - International News Service

    Unofficial scorecards:

    • UP - 8-7 Zivic
    • AP - 9-6 Zivic
Post fight comment: "Armstrong hits surprisingly hard, but those bolo punches hurt him more than any of his punches hurt me. Every time I landed one of them I noticed that right away his punches lost steam. He's the gamest guy I ever saw." - Fritzie Zivic
