    This is a great match up!

    Gavilan was bigger (and more skilled IMO) than Ross, and Armstrong was small for the weight, but he doesn't have nasty power that might be necessary to deter Armstrong. He does, however, have the chin. Armstrong should be hell for Gavilan' style, but I think Gavilan siza and chin give an edge.

    Armstrong was skilled, but relied on being a force of nature. I don't know if its giving a bit too much where Gavilan is concerned.

    I'm leaning towards Gavilan decision, but I'm unsure.

    I think Gavilan would dominate Armstrong in exchanges often enough that he could win on points.

    I am ashamed to say that I have only started watching Kid Gavilan very recently and the more I see his fights the more impressed I am with him. What a boxer this guy was! Surprised I don't hear much about him on this forum.

    All seriousness, you're in for a treat. Definitely check out his series with Johnny Bratton. Awesome wars!

    Also check out the Basilio bout. Very cagey and technical. And if you wanna challenge your scoring skills, watch his bout with the extremely underrated boxing master Billy Graham.

    @McGrain Nor me. Too fast, too accurate, too many punches, too much variety, too much spite and an adamantium chin. If Robinson had to box him to beat him and Basilio couldn't quite outslug him it says it all.

    Much appreciated with the recommendations! The fight with Bratton (another fighter that's growing on me) was a great scrap. So much skill and speed in that fight. Gavilan is seriously becoming one of my favorites to watch with every viewing. I can't believe it took me this long to finally get around and discover Kid Gavilan, not knowing his overall abilities. If he had one punch KO power to go along with his skills he would have been even greater.

    I think I'll have to favor Gavilan against Armstrong.

    Gavilan is the greatest Cuban fighter for me. He was greater than Napoles (not quite as smooth though). Its my view he was more technically skilled than Robinson.
