I'll pick Leonard, just to make a pick. I know we're gunna get the 'Leonard is the best h2h welter ever imo, even better than Robinson' guys on here soon, i hate that!!!!
Well I was going to put Armstrong-Robinson. Although they did meet in '43 Armstong was past his prime. He was Robinson's idol along with Louis. & Robinson stated that he carried Armstrong in that bout.
I read Burley's book and it says that after Zivic beat Armstrong, Robinson was hellbent on beating Zivic. And when he did it was for Armstong. Dont know how tru it is, but sounds very good as a boxing folklore type story!
I'd pick most top WW's over Armstrong, as good as he was, because he was just not naturally as big as the others. I'd take Leonard to stop him at some point over 15.
Its foreseeable, i wouldnt think Leonard would stop him though, Robinson was young when he fought Armstrong, but still, i see the fact that Robinson couldnt stop him at that point of Armstrong's career as a positiive for Armstrong in this respect. Also, was Armstrong only ever stopped twice? In his first and last bouts if im correct, i still see the case for Leonard doing it on his very best night, maybe?
Armstrong was stopped by Zivic well before the end of his career, not too far removed from his prime I don't imagine. I understand that was a dirty fight though. As far as Robinson, there are many who feel he carried Armstrong in a 10 rounder. I'd say Leonard is capable of stopping him down the stretch of a 15 rounder, given his finishing ability. Maybe I underestimate a peak Armstrong. In fact, a peak Armstrong(in the heart of his run) would probably last the distance.
Remember what Kevin Howard did then ask yourself does this seem unreasonable? Armstrong on points, the deciding factor is experience. Leonard puts up a good fight tho
And what exactly did Kevin Howard do that would change my mind? And why exactly would I take your opinion regarding Leonard seriously, especially when the last time we spoke on Armstrong it was you who didn't even consider him a top 25 ATG and I who persuaded you to reconsider, after you said he seemed crude on film.
I think Leonard eventually figures out Armstrong, but, since no one closed distance like Armstrong, I wouldn't rule out the possiblity of Armstrong pulling off a close decision victory. Still, I pick Leonard to just eke out a close decision in a wonderful fight.
