Armstrong fought at welterweight while weighing 133-137. Crawford fights at welterweight while weighing 160-168.
Armstrong gets tomatoed from walking into piston jabs and check hooks all night. Buds jab would definitely pulp the face of a tiny guy like Armstrong who had no defence
Armstrong by UD or late KO. Crawford has looked decent against fighters of the you punch I block , I punch you block era, but how would he fair against a fighter whose head would constantly be in his chest? Riding his punches, not giving him the room to get his jab going or , letting him turn to his right as he does? Simply a different beast and style Crawford hasn't faced. Hammerin Hank would eventually overwhelm Crawford because he wouldn't allow him to get the room to use his advantages. Crawford, never has faced a fighter of that unique style and aggression, he would be left asking the ref to give him the room. With no obvious fouling going on , the ref would tell Crawford to fight, and Armstrong's onslaught would carry him to victory.... Easier than some would imagine.
i wouldn't fancy hank under the most liberal of rules used in his day. today zero chance the fight would be allowed. that's a 30+lb fight night weight difference.
Homicide Hank. Top 5 of the finest virtuosos who ever laced them. The hero to Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier, and many more. ‘He was a human piston. I never saw a better small man and I never expect to. They don’t make them like Armstrong anymore.’- Jack Dempsey The issue of weight (Crawford likely climbing the rope at around 147-160/Armstrong had his best body of work at Featherweight/Lightweight, and coming in at 142 against Ceferino Garcia, the Middleweight champion) is there, but ignoring Bud's rehydration advantage would be just as foolish as tossing aside the fact that Armstrong conditioned himself for twelve to fifteen rounds of buzzsaw pressure, bob and weave and inside fighting planned for all night. Both have to be taken into account, and rules and time period would play their part in the bout. Bud's size advantage is the only thing keeping this thread from being a farce, really. Armstrong holding three (four according to most) titles out of the possible eight, going from Featherweight to Middleweight, at time when the weight classess were condensed (with how many weight classes and belts there are today, most so called world holders would be outside of the top 10) beating the likes of Barney Ross along the way. Achievement-wise (using them as an indicator of physical and mental capability of a fighter, legacy aside) it's a no-go comparison; Armstrong is better even based on film, his head movement and crouching style being emulated and studied by many fighters afterwards, notably Joe Frazier, and his inside game being truly elite.
his inside game is totally illegal in modern boxing, he weighs a huge amount(at least 3 weight classes) less. his defence at range was not good. i would never **** on hank, but come on.
