henry armstrong vs willie pep primes 126 lbs

    It is hard to believe I posted this thread 5 years ago...
    But today I still believe that the prime Willie Pep I saw before his plane crash accident would still have lost to the featherweight edition of Henry Armstrong, in my eyes the best 126 fighter in history. Willie was almost uncanny avoiding being hit, but I still feel he did not have the firepower to hold off the human hurricane that was Hammerin Hank for long. And in my eyes the prime Armstrong gets inside Sandy Saddler and batters Sandy badly....Henry was a force of nature in his prime...

    A high volume swarmer is, IMO, pure poison to a defensive specialist....in the same way that a peak Joe Frazier would keep a Jimmy Young too preoccupied with defense to mount anything reasonably effective offensively, so too would Henry Armstrong overwhelm Pep. The question would be, could Pep survive to the final bell vs Hank.
