Damn I now regret turning off the TV around the 6th round. I thought Lundy was going to cruise to a decision. So much for Molina being the "dumb" fighter. :rofl
It WOULD have been an exciting finish if the ref let it go to its natural conclusions. These squeamish refs ROB boxing fans of the finishes they deserve to see - and some applaud this bull****! Unbelievable!
Ive said it a few times over that was BS stoppage had Lundy been knocked down and woozy then fine stop the fight. But when a guy has his hands up in a fight that he is winning and 1/4 shots land then that shouldn't warrent a stoppage.
I haven't seen anything but this can't really comment on his punch resistance but this shot is right on the button anyone would go down from that is all I know... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7wseTXC9S0[/ame]
The referee should be commended he stopped that fight at exactly the right time. Lundy should thank him he saved his career & possibly his life. I hope Lundy learned a big lesson from that fight. You do not trash talk opponents & act like a jerk in the ring unless you know you are the better man. Last night Lundy was NOT the better man I remember a fight in Ft Worth TX a few years ago a. An at the time hot prospect ****** Juuko was fighting a journeyman Antonio Hernandez. Juuko was boxing Hernandez head off was winning every round fairly easy. People were yelling to ref Jerry McKenzie to stop the fight but Hernandez never stopped fightin back. Two or 3 times a Hernandez bomb whistled past Juuko's chin & Juuko taunted Hernandez sticking out his chin & showboating. Suddenly right out of the blue Hernandez landed that bomb & Juuko was out like a light LOL. When they stood in the ring together Hernandez face was beten to a pulp Juuko was practically unmarked. But it was Hernandez face that had the winners smile on it though
Exactly. If he hit the deck and had trouble getting up, or got up and was all wobbly - fine, stop the fight. This fight was stopped prematurely, and Lundy was deprived of his opportunity to try to survive and the fans of the opportunity to see an exciting finish. Modern refs are squeamish and stop fights WAY too early many times. Let them go to their NATURAL conclusions, like they did in the old days!!!
At the time I thought it was premature but in the replay you can see he did a Jermaine Taylor v Froch and dropped his hands. The ref was already jumping in by the time he got them back up. Good stoppage in my book.
im sure some fighters are appreciative that you're not THEIR ref lol.... its nothing about being a *****, its about a fighter's safety and ensuring his boxing career. I generally favor the "modern" refs call for a TKO victory if a fighter is in trouble, unresponsive, unable to defend themselves, or just generally overwhelmed. I have to say the ref was in his right to stop the fight, but i felt that one was a bit early. You have to take the fighter's temperament and resilience. Lundy obviously has alot of pride and it would take a decisive situation for him to agree to a stoppage. If i was the ref, i would have verbally told Lundy to actively defend himself and punch back or the fight would be stopped. Ive seen quite a few refs do that to fighters before they decide to wave them off. Looked like Molina landed a flush right that sprayed alot of sweat, and a few other glancing punches, but most were absorbed on the guard. When Lundy was waved off, he didnt look dazed or stunned, but rather upset on the stoppage. He may have been hurting at the time, but a fighter needs to be given a chance to fight himself out of a situation before he gets waved off...
having no chin and fighting like a ****** will **** up a career. He had that fight in the bag, totally out classing Molina and he got cocky, one would think with a chin like, one that has been dented several times he would be smarter than that. stoppage was a touch early but I believe the end was inevitable
He took a right hook i believe that did drop his guard, but he recovered his guard immediately.... any heavy impact shot will throw you off balance and/or drop a guard. He was hurting, thats undeniable, but he wasnt given much time to fight thru it...
this loss may serve him better than a win..... midrounds he started to lose focus and started to do real weird stuff, after realizing he couldnt hurt Molina....
I would agree with that. It won't hurt him. I think he has bigger problems though, he aint that slick and his chin is really bad. Could be a solid fighter but at the top I just don't think he will hold up. I for one took great pleasure in watching him lose, way too arrogant, for having done nothing. So did Joe and Teddy.
****, you think a guy not on the ground is a bad stoppage. A fighter hung up on the ropes, out on his feet getting teed off on would be too early for you.
