I never saw the footage before but Espinosa was beating up Maske, especially during the first round.

Henry Maske was born in January 1964 and Angel Espinosa was born in October 1966.
Espinosa was gold medallist at the 1986 World Amateur Championships at light middleweight while Maske was silver medallist at middleweight, losing to Allen of the USA.

As successful a boxer as Henry was in the amateurs, he was 3-0 down in amateur meetings vs Espinosa from what I can gather, with wins for the Cuban in the 1987 World Cup, and further wins in Halle and the TSC tournament in 1988. All those wins were scored 5-0 for Angel.

Cuba boycotted the 1988 Olympic Games as we know (just as in 1984).
I guess we can call Angel and a lot of those good Cuban boxers back then a little unlucky.

Henry won gold at the Olympics at middleweight in 1988 to go along with 3 golds at the Euro Champs and went on to win gold at light heavyweight in the 1989 World Amateur Championships.
Espinosa was a silver medallist at the 1989 Worlds, losing to a Soviet in the middleweight final.

Maske then went on to have world championship success as a professional.

Savon won his first medal in 1992, he did beat Ray Mercer who ended up winning gold in 1988 but Cuba didn't went.

Candelario Duvergel is another Cuban great that missed his chance at those games.

Maske was really accomplished as an amateur and as a professional, as far as I know he did really well outside Boxing as well with several McDonald's franchises in Germany and a commentator job. (Along with being a huge sports figure in Germany and a couple of acting gigs). Really contrasting with Espinosa who became an alcholic after missing the Olympics and died in the high school gym where he teached in Miami.

What surprises me the most is how easily Espinosa beat Maske here, I have seen another fight between them and while Espinosa was clearly winning, he wasn't battering Maske the way he did in this fight.

Maske won the silver in 1986, I'm sure because Darrin Allen was already a world champion when Espinosa moved up and knocked him out at the 1987 pan american games.

    Thanks.

There was a World Amateur Championships held in 1986, not in 1987. It took place in Reno, US, and Darin Allen of the US won middleweight gold beating Maske in the final, who got silver.

Cuba boycotted the 1988 Olympics. Ray Mercer won heavyweight gold.
Felix Savon won Olympic gold in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

Apparantly from the scores I've seen, Angel Espinosa won his three matches against Henry by 5-0 meaning they were unanimous victories, with the judges all having him the winner at the end.
Henry might have won rounds, or not, but it means the judges all had Angel as the winner of their amateur bouts.
