There was never any doubt DM would continue at 175. The fight against Giovannini was made cos Kohl had a rematch clause in the bott contract and he wanted to keep control of the title, at least for the time being. The intention was not to make DM a cruiserweight. I would need to look it up but am pretty sure he was only around 83 kgs for the giovannini fight, at any rate, he was not a genuine cruiserweight considering the limit for the weightclass was like 86 kgs at the time, I think. I imagine later in his career he'd have filled out the weightclass better had he wanted to, but even then it was never a question. He could make 175 without too much trouble, had he gone for cruiserweight he'd have to fight guys coming down from the 90 kgs and above who d have a considerable weight advantage come fight time.
It wasn't "possibly so" it was just like that. And it didn't matter for Kohl as he had a fighter in line to fight for the title just vacated by DM, in Ralf Rocchgiani. At the time being Kohl was not only DMs promoter but also his manager, a relation DM ended some time later down the line. DM in effect did what Kohl said he should do, at least at that time. If anyone waited here to make a decision I assume it was Kohl to make sure the cruiserweight belt remained within grasp (in personam ralf Rocchgiani). From what I remember the decision DM would continue at 175 was made instantly after the fight, only the answer to the question who'd be fighting for the now vacant title took some time: in Mid 1995 Ralf won the crown vacated by DM half a year earlier. I imagine at the time DM won the crown Ralf was still a regular pub goer.
We agree to disagree here. Funnily, you believe to remember exact details of his career planning of early 1995 when further up this thread you had claimed you didnt even know "the Pole" at all before he was facing Rocco in summer of 1996. :rofl
A true boxing expert then. I was actually there, (like thousands others in attendance as pointed out), have seen those DM matches live. And even prior to him becoming a champ, first time I saw him he was fighting in front of a few hundred people in a small Billard club, in late 1992 or early 1993.
If you indeed missed the point I was trying to make any further comment on this particular issue from my part seems redundant. Anyways, interesting debate :good
