Is this recent? Top 10? That's a bit of a stretch to say the least. Top 25, and that's giving him some allowances for his rather poor resume in comparitive to his ability & expectation.

Its like floyd jr. too good for his own good. will never be remembered how he should. this is was wrote when roy was in his prime. anything post ruiz was weight drained minus 25 pound muscle roy was never the same. its only my opinion that he is top 10 and many would agree with me. but im not a boxing expert. i no a little enough to have my opinion say

"Too goo for his own good"- actually a really good way to describe it. Speaks to the talent of the man that people think he left some accomplishments on the table considering everything he actually did achieve. Any kid in the gym now would be thrilled if they were told they could have a third of the career and success Roy's had.

Pure talent wise, he's easily top 10 of all time.

I put Winky Wright in that category as well. TOO GOOD FOR HIS OWN GOOD. Winky was defensive master who never got the opportunities he should have, why? because he was just too damn good and could be a nightmare to any middleweight in any era.

He's in my top 10. He still has time to make the sort of big fights to move him up. Look at what Bernard Hopkins has managed to do in the last 5 years.

If Roy Jones goes on to beat Danny Green and then Bernard Hopkins again, he should be in anyones top 10.

That is Herb's opinion, which isn't to be taken with more consideration than the opinions of so many other historians who hold Jones in far less stead, or even knowledgable boxing fans. Jones was a phenomenal talent, but the fact remains that aside from a young Hopkins and a weight drained Toney he never proved how conclusively he'd have fared against an elite or fellow all time great fighter. I think he'd have always beaten either, and that his talents would've made him hell for anyone he matched up with, but his intangibles are very much unproven in comparison to the elite tier of ring legends. It sounds to me like Herb has a man crush, nothing more.

He's the most physically talented boxer of all time, almost without a doubt. I can't imagine him not being in someone's top 15 at LEAST.

he went threw about 15-20 fights without losing a round. only other boxer able to close to that is FMJ and even he dont dominate his apponents like roy did. yea its all opinions but its a shame his prime has gone. you will get guys like floyd again maybe not as talented but guys who cah mimic his style you get guys who can mimic most boxers. but no1 one will ever come again like the man the legend RJJ. its sad and i know its if buts and maybes but if roy retires after tarver 1. no 1 in the world even doubts his top 10 status

i have jones barely top 50, and i think i'm being kind.....the guy has a padded record of biblical proportions, then the first time he get KTFO, he is not the "same fighter" by his fans....sorry but boxing is about coming back from the depths of hell, and showing what you are worth....and IMO jones showed me very little...

skill wise a phenom, but i can get pass the horrible KO of tarver....johnson.....and the ruiz paper belt victory is not as big as others make it out to be.....

be a fan of his talent, but i'm a kind of guy that is "what have you done for me lately" and jones comes up way short throughout his carear....

beats Hopkins with one hand. beats reconized pound for pound undefeated james toney with such easy and every round. wins a heavey weight title loses 25 pound of muscle to come back down and win the light heavy first person in 100 years to do so. made his apponents look like sparring partners. come on man credit weres its due. in his prime he could not be beat middle to light heavy.

yes he also singlehandedly brung down the rains on africa,circum-navigated the globe on horseback and ousted robert mugabe all with one hand behind his back.....

what a load of hyperbole, hit n runs from hopkins for 12 rounds, pissed on the over rated meatball james 'cheese on that please' toney and sparred 12 rounds with john ruiz  are you kidding ? harry greb and the like were doing that on a weekly basis for there dinner everyones entitled to there own but.....

you jones groupies make me **** 'couldnt be beat' 'prime for prime' how the **** can you say he was unbeatable he never fought anyone to prove that prime calzaghe, michalkewski, eubank, mclellan, your basing this on his run of garbage men and montel griffin (he lost to rico hoye) the minute he stepped up johnson starched him, what a load of ****.

makes me **** when people rate him as the best smw or lhw ever, fought about 5 times at smw and his best wins at lhw were against reggie johnson, woods, gonzalez and glenn kelly!!

remind me not to read a goldman article in future.

Roy's whole career was careful handpicked opponents. His whole career was smoke and mirrors. Jones NEVER beat a unified, undisputed, or linear champion in his whole career. The Hopkins and Toney fights are 2 of the most boring I have ever seen. Jones does not havr the names on his resume that he should or that can be compared to legit ATG's.

Compare Roy's resume with the people he is often mentioned with all time like Ali, Leonard, SRR, etc. it is a complete joke in comparison.
