I read this article on The Timeonline earlier and it does pose a couple of interesting questions regarding whether Hide should be allowed to fight some of these fighters and whether because it is only 3 x 3 minute rounds the bbboc are just allowing it to go ahead. Thoughts? There are various things we know about Hide. One - he is unpredictable, two - he can punch. And it is the latter that could cause a problem. Three of the boxers in the draw - Jon-Lewis Dickinson, Leon Williams and Zahid Kahut - have never boxed in a contest over six (three-minute) rounds. Another, John Anthony, has lost nine of his past 11 bouts and has a record of 7-11. Would the British Boxing Board of Control really sanction a bout between Hide and one of these four if it wasn't part of Prizefighter? The contests may by only three rounds, but this isn't sparring. And the class divide is enormous, even if Hide - now 38 and more than 16 years after he first won a world title - can reasonably be expected to be past his best. Of the others, Darren Corbett has not boxed since being stopped in two rounds by Ovill McKenzie in the semi-final of the last cruiserweight Prizefighter at Earl's Court last May (and prior to that he had only boxed once in five years), Wayne Brooks has boxed just nine times as a professional and was stopped on his only move outside four-rounders (albeit on a cut).
