Both of those follow-up quotes are yours, and it seems like you are arguing just to be arguing. I've stated many times in this thread that I don't consider JKD to be a style. I consider it to be a philosophy. The philosophy is simple. Use what works. Are you arguing this is bad advise?

I've also stated that bjj is the only stand alone art. Does this make this the rule? No, or Palhares would know how to defend against strikes while he is on his back. Oh wait, I'm sure he wasn't ill prepared at all. It looks like he was totally expecting Marquardt to knock him out. Maybe it would have been easier for Palhares if Marquardt tried to poked him in the eye first.

:patsch getting a simple yes or no answer out of you is like trying to nail down water.
what the hell does "bjj is the only stand alone art" even mean??
what have all those judo/wrestling/muay thai guys been practicing then?

I did JKD for quite a while, and still carried some of it over to my daily training.
My trainer was a 50 year old man, and did JKD for about 20 years. He was 5'10, 170 pounds. I'm 5'7, 165, lift a lot, I boxed 5 years prior to doing JKD, stay flexible, loose, got good hand speed. I've sparred guys who weighed 200 and they were legitimately hitting me hard, and I can honestly say this guy hit me the hardest I've ever been hit. His hand speed was to fast for my eyes to follow, you couldn't hit him, and every sparring session was the worst beating I got.
We just sparred hands... I couldn't imagine sparring with kicks thrown in as well.
He'd fight southpaw, lean back, back hand (yeah... it's illegal in boxing, but this is all part of JKD) with the right, and if the left was coming you know you'd be hurting. I've seen him spar many guys who were like 6'5 240 with a bit of boxing experience, some smaller guys who were good boxers, and never seen anybody do that well against the guy. The harder you go, the better you do, the more beating you got.

Not saying he's a world beater, or unstoppable, but I couldn't imagine going barefists with him in the street. I boxed and he easily beats me with hands, not to mention he kicked like a mule with that side kick, had the temperment he'd jab his fingers in your eyes and not think twice, and wasn't physichally weak by no means.
People under rate JKD as well as over rate. Any training holds a good advantage over the untrained guy. IMO it's good to be prepared in every category, and of course JKD isn't that prepared if you don't land on somebody/ don't have an opportunity to throw a strike and get taken down. Everything got a weakness though, and that's why you apply what is useful to training, and throw away the rest.

You wanted me to give a yes, or no, answer to questions belong to you, citing points that you are trying to make. Points that I have no concern with. How could I give a simple yes, or no, answer?

no your just being evasive for the sake of losing face.
I asked you a very simple question and instead you gave me some bull**** about JKD being a philosophy. what a load of crap.. its an identifiable art of its own that has underlying philosophies. philosophies you can apply to just about ALL martial arts if you wanted to.
you know as well as i do that there are styles out there that **** all over certified JKD in the street.

You took two of your quotes, and asked me to choose. It's not like you picked from several posters, and asked me which I preferred. It was two of your own points. Here, I'll have a try at this game:

Do you think that getting your eye gouged hurts your performance?

    Or...

Do you think your performance can be hurt by your eye being gouged?

Hmmm... What's your answer? These are bull**** questions? Oh, then you're a question evader.

I've stated over and over that I don't consider JKD to be a style. It's pure definition is "style without style." It is a philosophy. Don't be restricted to form, and use what works is the basis of the entire philosophy.

Everyone can see that you are arguing for the last word at this point.

:patsch did you even read what i was asking??
one was a summary of my points and the other was a summary of sugarnolds points.
which one do you agree with?? not a hard question. instead you went off on some abstract rant about JKD not even being an art you recognise.
but dont worry about it i dont even want to know what you think anymore. im just trying to get the last word in

My apologies, thought both comments were yours.

I thought one was sarcastic, and one was your opinion.

You still have me caught in a trick question, even if it is unknowingly. I do think of JKD as a philosophy. I do think it is the ultimate philosophy. So that is my answer. Use what works over what doesn't.

    Or...

Did you mean JKD as the style that all these assholes in the JKD videos are using? In that case, I'll take bjj. I'll take bjj over any style.

I'm not trying to make my opinion hard to nail down. My opinion is complicated.

all these jkd and wing chun knife teachers need to stop teaching that bull**** and get a grip on reality. it is extremely irresponsible to be teaching that garbage. those students should watch this and know to run.
