I doubt very much Paez had 80 amatuer fights before he met Chavez Jr. In that footage they both had pretty good footwork.

I think it's the record...people are trained nowadays to believe that if a fighter has had 20-30 fights, he should already be world class and ready to contend for a title.

JCC Jr is being brought up into the game differently...and a lot of people won't adapt their thoughts to fit this sort of approach. They think 34(5?) wins is enough for him now and he should be either facing real competition/title holders and moving away from being "protected".

The kid's young, he's learning as he goes and furthermore--he's got the burden of a name on him.

He's got a long ways to go...some people don't seem ready to accept that.

Chavez is a good puncher but he's slow to land and easy to hit. It doesn't seem like there is any natural talent there. You see other guys and you think, "this guy will be a star," like if you see Leonard's/ Taylor's/ Oscar's Olympic fights but with this guy you think, 'damn, good punch but he sucks."

From what i've seen of the two, Proska would put a beating on Chavez Jr. Berto is a Welter and Proska is seemingly between Junior Middle and Middle Weight, so I don't see that fight happening. If Berto were to move up to 154 though, it would be one hell of a fight (though a completely pointless one for Berto).

You don't look at him and see an amazing natural talent that's for sure, but who knows what he would be like if he'd had 100 amateur fights behind him.

Anyone know why he didn't go the amateur route? Seems a dangerous tactic to turn him pro without amateur experience, or are they going to wait until he's had 80 fights before he goes for a title?

Hard to imagine he already has 30+ fights, he looks like a 17 year old kid (face AND body)

    Good for him though!

That semi-pro promoted/presented match beetween two kids without headgear seemed a little odd though. Very weird imo. Also because of all those adults going crazy:roll:

    Peace

Yah I was amazed by that also (the little guys fighting without headgear), but then again it was in Mexico. JCC jr. can hit hard to the body, he has power, but I don't understand why he doesn't have any head movement at all, he relays too much on his power, that can prove to be fatal.

It's his fault he never got any am experience. The technique and durability you learn in the ams is golden- it's a bad move to not start in the ams IMO.
