I can remember this thread being posted a very long time ago, and SuzieQ has since accepted Lewis as a top 10 great.. But wow, what a battle it was to get him to that point.....

I guess it depends if you rate his WBC trinket defenses. The 90's belonged to Holyfield, but when the dust was settled Lennox came out on top. Do we include Tyson in that era? I don't know. I like to look at the 80's as Holmes's and Tyson's era, the 90's for Holyfield and then '99-'03 for Lennox.

    Yeah that sounds reasonable.
    Joe Frazier dominated 1968-'72 arguably.

Couldnt care less if you have him at 11. He's clearly higher than that and if you are unable to acknowledge that then you know nothing about boxing.

True, Holyfield wasn't the ducking type. Even though Lewis was due at that point, I'm glad Holyfield avenged the Moorer loss... and making the fight with Moorer did make sense... but a lot of people felt like Holyfield was ducking Lewis by making the fight with Moorer (taking the easy road). In retrospect Holyfield may have had a better chance vs. Lewis had they fought in '97 instead of '99.
