most people expected Joe to win easily, and most of his fans thought he was gonna knock out Jones. Even though he failed to do that, his fans are now touting him as better than he was before his win over Jones I don't get it. Jones 8 years back would beat Calzaghe as easy as Calzaghe beat him yesterday, except Jones wouldn't touch the canvas. Don't forget that Tarver and Johnson beat Roy Jones years ago and beat him by KO.
he did the same thing tarver and glen did to, i guess they are boxing gods as well.hell kessler fought 50 times better then jones, i guess he is a boxing god as well.man please, he needs to fight chad or retire asap.
Dawson looks good when he fights in spurts. He'll look fast, powerful and skillful. For the rest of the time he is lacking. Joe is too consistent for him. He'd be all over him with speed and skill for 3 minutes of every round. Chad would fold.
First of all, you have to remember where Roy Jones was ranked at coming into this fight. He was ranked by any knowlegdeable boxing fan well below Antonio Tarver and even Glen Johnson yesterday morning and especially today. Giving that, Calzaghe was expected to have an easy fight. Would anyone give Tarver or Johnson much of a chance against Calzaghe? Now lets talk about Chad Dawson. He's the only competition left in the division and he's young with great potential to be a lock on the Light Heavyweights for a very long time without Calzaghe in he picture. If Calzaghe leaves now and Dawson becomes an all time great(and he will have everything going for him to do so), then there will always be that question mark on Joe's career. Simple as that.
they must have been scared of the great Joe Calzaghe. They must have thought : "It would be much easier for me to beat him when I'm in my forties, so I'll just wait."
If Chad Dawson was to get in the ring with Calzaghe he would get obliterated, Dawson is and never will be on the level of Calzaghes class. Dawson will not become an all time great, unlike JC. IMO the there is a question mark over the American fight scene?
Your just being a tit. Face it at the end of the day Calzaghe has the W on his record over two of the best US fighters of recent history, whether you like it or not. Jones may have been passed his prime but Joe treated him like you would a fighter in a sparring session. In fact i think Calzaghe COULD have forced a stoppage, but he carried him to a certain extent.
Yea and KEVIN MCBRIDE has a KO win over MIKE TYSON. if anyone's being a tit, its the thread starer, saying things like "why did Roy and Hopkins avoid Joe in their primes" And if Joe treated Jones like a sparring session its cause he got knocked down in the first and didn't want to risk it happening again.
look dude, Chad would not get "obliterated". every real boxing fan knows that Chad is more than capable of having a chance of beating Calzaghe compared to the past their primes Hopkins and Jones. thats especially conceivable since Hopkins and Jones both were able to put Calzaghe on the canvas. plus, how would Chad not be the clear favorite to lead the 175lb division for the next few years until someone else comes around? there just isnt anyone else there to compete.
The Mike Tyson that fought McBride was way more shot than the Jones we saw last night. And i think the reason that it never come off when Jones was in his prime was because Calzaghe wasnt a name in the US back then, plus it would have been high risk/ low reward. As for Saint B-Hop he pulled out from negotiations for a fight at the last minute asking for more money.....not Calzaghe s fault. And to say Calzaghe treated it like it was a sparring session because he was knocked down is laughable, Jones hit him in the 6th round if im right with a beautiful uppercut which was alot more accurate and powerful than the shot that put Calzaghe down, and Calzaghe didnt flinch. Youve got to keep it real man.
LOL - If Hopkins is past is prime then how come he beat the supposed superstar in Pavlik. They put Calzaghe to the canvass - so what - if they were that good they could have capitalised on it but they did not because they were not good enough. Calzaghe is a class apart from overated american fighters.
