To draw an analogy... it reminded me a bit of Lewis vs Mavrovic. Although Thompson was a bit more accomplished and a southpaw, both him and Mavrovic had an awkard style, an iron chin (Mavrovic moreso) to make for a less-than-appealing fight, but still a whitewash on the scorecards in both cases.

Yeah, the end result is fine, but I am disappointed:
    • Wlad looked very tired even in the first rounds already. OK, he frequently looks like that but today I thought that this could be a repetition of puritty & brewster
    • The chin issue, or is it? I saw Wlad in fright when a low-power punch connected to his neck area. It's a strange panic in his eyes. ON THE OTHER HAND he ate some hard punches to the chin pretty well. What the heck?
    • Wlad felt only secure when he could position himself correctly.
    • Tony Thompson showed maybe the blueprint of how to beat Wlad:
      • move backwards so that Wlad's punches weaken out
      • hold your defense up high, since Wlad doesn't care to body punch (although Thompson was the perfect tall target)
      • have a hard chin. I suppose that Tony Thompson chin shows as tirering. Interesting.
      • long arms are obviously very important
Now what I liked is of course that Wlad from the very first round used his right hand (was actually the first connected punch). And that it ended in a KO.

I hope that Tony Thompson continues boxing, so that he can prove what good fighter he is. Unbelievable akward an strong opponent.

You have to deduct the bums from the record. Assume for your calculation that a bum is everyone with a record of 3:1 (win:loss). Deduct those opponents and you get a very clear first picture.

Of course it does. Whom has Foreman beaten or Ali. Ali's and Foreman's opponents are completely overrated.

If he took those same shots from Brewster or Sander, you would have seen that...Those two guys can crack and had the power to hurt and stop any HW....maybe not the skills, but the definite power to do so...

Likewise, I can never imagine Wlad losing to a guy like Spinks either....

He is playing a completely different game than every other heavyweight in the world, he is Tiger Woods playing the sunday league at the local muni at this point.

No, he was just knocked on his backside for damn near the 10 count
by the great Reynaldo Snipes. Purrity, Sanders and Brewster are
much harder punchers than Snipes could ever dream of being. Purrity
knocked down Tommy Morrison in his prime a couple of times and
got robbed of a decision victory. Rahman admitted that Sanders
was the hardest puncher by far that he ever faced. He said virtually
every punch hurt. Brewster slaughtered Golata early. Wlad gets
rocked only by huge heavyhanded powerpunchers. The 6ft. 5inch
Thompson landed some blows on Wlad's chin yesterday to no effect.
Wlad's chin is average for a heavy; no better, no worse.
