I'm so sick of people praising Forbes for going the distance against Oscar and Berto. Those two fights weren't even competitive. He's undersized and does not belong in the ring against top welterweights. He's nothing but a decent journeyman fighter.
You're right about the fact that he shouldn't be at 147, he's wasting precious time at the tail end of his career where he could be challenging and staying competitive with some younger guys at light welter. Don't complain about him fighting on an HBO undercard fight as though that were so above him, that's bull****.
Fair enough, but as someone who pays for premium channels, I'm dissatisfied with seeing Forbes as a challenger against top WW when he is clearly undersized.
Which previous Berto opponent was a more worthy challenger to a top WW? Or are you unfairly holding Forbes up to a standard that doesn't apply to say Miki Rodriguez?
They both weren't deserving but at least Rodriguez was a true WW who was actually bigger than berto and had good power. Yeah Forbes hung in there longer than Rodriguez, but Forbes lacks any power and is simply too small. There wasn't really anything to make you think Forbes stood a chance against Berto. At least for Rodriguez there was some hope.
I have to agree that it sucks paying for premium channels to watch boxing and having to sit through a Forbes fight. Yes he is slippery and yes he can take a solid shot, but he is boring as hell to watch. If he is on HBO again I will tune out the first hour because I know his fight will suck and will go the distance. Thank God Mayorga got ktfo. :happy
Dude, **** that. There are dozens of fighters who I'd 86 from the major networks before Steve Forbes. He's quick, skilled, durable as hell. And still capable of fighting competitively with some of the best at 140.
I don't wanna be disrespectful to Forbes but I have to agree with the original poster. This fight was nothing but a showcase for Berto.
Yeah, I agree that it was a showcase for Berto. But I think the problem is that for all of Forbes' biggest fights, he was woefully undersized compared to his opponents. Against De La Hoya, Berto, and also his fight with Bundrage in the Contender finale. But what are you going to do, you know? He's probably not going to say no to a decent payday, even though it's evident that he'd be much better suited at 140.
Heres hoping that top fighters like DLh and Berto fight somebody with a pulse. It isnt Forbes fault that these douche bags want to fight him.
