here's the difference Joe Bugner...

Bugner was like watching grass grow. Safety first all the way. Yes if he was born with the determination and killer instinct or fighting spirit of an Ali or Foreman he could have been something. Unfortunately he did not have these qualities. I do not feel he would have beaten prime Foreman for that reason. He would have been battered and stopped.

 

Bugner had a very solid Chin. He was one of Gerry Cooney's chief sparring partners for 2 years ('80-'82) and was never put down by Cooney.

 

Bugner could probably outpoint both Price andFury , he had skills and a decent chin. Big fellow Joe I sat next to him at a boxing bill once, he was affable enough , but what I remember was his surprisingly high pitched voice, I refrained from remarking on it ,didnt want to hurt his feelings.:scaredas:

 

There was a fighting man lurking somewhere inside Bugner the trouble is it very rarely came out. For the most part he was a pacifist,the British public really wanted to like him but too often he stank the place out. All they saw was this 6'4" giant with good skills just happy to survive or scrape by.
I personally think he was of a much higher level than Fury and Price but would you put your house on him beating them? The man managed to get beat of Jack Bodell FFS.
