Not really, I was commenting on other people here. A frequent criticism I heard that GGG got outboxed in the first fight and that's why he lost. The tables got turned in the 2nd fight with GGG boxing, Canelo fighting more brawler style, yet the same people who applied that criticism previously, docked GGG for fighting like Canelo in the 2nd fight. I didn't ridicule Canelo for boxing, I had him losing the first fight because of inactivity and getting outlanded. The second fight I thought he actually got outboxed, rocked multiple times etc, but I'll be honest with you, I didn't think Canelo landed that many more power shots now that I checked the stats, I thought it was about even. So I'll have to rewatch it and have another look.
Figures. I bet a lot of people score the way you do. Unfortunately number of punches landed isn't a criteria for scoring a pro fight. To score a pro fight you have to consider four elements.. 1. Hard clean punches 2. Defense 3. Ring Generalship 4. Effective aggression I recommend you rewatch the fight using the proper scoring method.
He is the caliber of GGG. If anything he is higher caliber. He moved up and control the bigger guy. If Canelo did not get tired the scores would be lopsided for Canelo.
In another three or four fights Canelo might legitimately win against Golovkin, he is getting closer each time round
-Defense? How so? -Also, one jab is not on par with a power punch. Fighter A lands 3 pawing/measuring jabs Fighter B lands a left hook to the liver followed by an overhand right to the chin. Fighter B wins that exchangem
Well there's an old adage, "boxing is about hitting and not getting hit" And this is what it basically comes down to. It's not rocket science. What is defense for? Getting hit less than your opponent. How do we measure "effective" aggression? Whether the guy is able to land punches. What is ring generalship? Whether you can put yourself in positions to land more than your opponent. None of those things matter at the end of the day if you are getting hit more or hitting less than your opponent and they just serve as a distraction from a very basic premise. I agree that power punches mean more than jabs, but it depends. I guess this is where subjectivity comes in, how many power shots make up for in getting outjabbed/outlanded by less powerful shots? That's the more prevalent point here.
GGG landed an average of 2.6 punches more than Canelo per round. Canelo landed an average of 2.25 punches power punches per round than Golovkin. Add the fact that Canelo proved to have better defense, and fought almost the entire fight on his terms by pressuring the pressure fighter, and threw less but landed more. Canelo won in all of the 4 categories for scoring a fight. -Clean hard punches- Canelo clearly won that. -Effective aggression-Canelo was the aggressor but what made him more effective was he landed his punches at a higher rate per punch thrown. -Defense- Canelo clearly won this -Ring Generalship-Canelo imposed his preferred fight style on GGG and GGG reacted to Canelo's style.
It's not "hard" punches, it's just clean punches by the way. GGG won that. Effective aggression? I'll give that to Canelo in the second fight. Defense? He was getting peppered by GGG's jab all night, in fact I think GGG displayed better defense and footwork. Ring generalship? I thought GGG managed quite well to keep the fight at his distance, though Canelo did enforce the pace on GGG. But you see where this is going?
Nature takes its course once again .Canelo is just too young and too ginger.GGG looking like a has been can’t keep up with a younger in his prime fighter. These Russian came into the big smoke late in their careers.Kovalev lomacenko and GGG all in their trienta or 30’s which is a shame.I am not saying it’s a good excuse but that is the case and reality.
