Joshua has packed on 20lbs of muscle since he turned pro, going from 229 to 249. That muscle is good for explosive speed but it's going to be terrible for the late rounds. He'll struggle to not get tired. Wilder on the other hand weighs about 225lbs now, he's skinnier than Joshua but he's shown he can fight the distance much better. Wilder stops Joshua late.
Wilder turned pro at 207 and was 229 in his last fight that's a gain of 22lbs, how's Wilder's stamina? While Joshua's stamina may very well be an issue as he currently fights at an amateurs pace and hasn't been beyond 3 rounds, you can't base it on his weight alone. Look at Jameel McCline same height at 6'6" but weighted even more than AJ usually around 260lbs and he went 10 and 12 rounds multiple times. Even if AJ has a stamina issues that won't matter if AJ KO's him in a few rounds.
He hasn't gained that much muscle though. Look at his body, his chest and torso look bigger but it's not HUGE like Joshua. Joshua is ripped, like Bruno.
Bruno gassed badly late in fights. Joshua is better than Bruno but he's going to have the same problem.
He's gained 22lbs which is more than AJ. It's just Wilder started at such a light weight and even now he is light for his height. Plenty of similar sized fighters like Wach, Grant, McCline, Vitali, Wlad, even the skinny Akinwande weighted more than Wilder. Of course AJ's huge, he's always been big, his debut weight is Deontay's current weight after bulking up. It may very well effect his stamina but we don't know for sure and to speculate at this point proves nothing until we see AJ get taken late into a fight. He may gas badly like Bruno or Wlad when pushed or he may be like Vitali, Lewis and McCline and cope fine at the weight.
Here is why Joshua beats Wilder: Dustin Nichols knock down Harold Scoiners knock down Eric Molina nervous moment during coward defense Johnny Duhaupas cowardly defense
Jameel McCline didn't move around a lot and had a low work-rate. And he wasn't bulging with muscle mass like Joshua. It was a mixture of natural weight/fat that made him so heavy. http://www.trbimg.com/img-5363ef68/...-mccline-election-20140502-001/2048/2048x1336 And MaCline lost most of his fights because he was a low work-rate plodder. You don't want to be compared to MaCline if your tipped for future star.dom.
Joshua's stamina is still unknown so we can't say if it's good or bad, either way Wilder won't be the man to test it, he could test Joshua's chin but we already KNOW Wilder has a suspect chin and he can't run from Joshua like he did the much shorter Stiverne, for that reason I think Joshua stops him inside 6.
I am not tipping Joshua for future star.dom based on McCline, I'm just using him and others as a comparison in regards to stamina. In fact in my opinion it's way too early to suggest Joshua will even win a title let alone be a dominant champion. I agree McCline didn't have the highest work rate but he paced himself and never gassed as some here are suggesting AJ might do. McCline was a very big guy, similar in size to AJ just not as ripped due to not having such low body fat which is why he has about 12-15lbs advantage on AJ. Had McCline had single digit body fat he would have looked huge and ripped as phuck like AJ. The key for AJ in terms of stamina will come down to pacing himself like Wlad and McCline did. Wlad we both know has stamina issues, it cost him twice during his career and AJ does currently fight at a pace which will see him gas even with good stamina. If there is a reason for thinking AJ may have stamina issues it's due to the frenetic pace he fights at, he still fights like an amateur in this regard. If you look at Parker in recent fights he is far more patient, he has already abandoned that amateur work rate and fights in a more deliberate even paced manner.
The pace he fights at to me has been pretty measured, it's only when he knows he can hurt the other guy that he ramps up the pressure, so to say he fights at an amateur pace is a bit early to say. I think if we see him fight someone with more resistance we'll know for sure how his stamina is as well as how he paces himself, but it's all too early to tell. Let the guy have his moment as a prospect, he's being put up there and compared to people he has no right to be compared to at this early stage. The plus for AJ is that he seems intelligent and puts his work in and is a total professional in his work ethic. He seems keen to learn and smart enough to apply it, so the signs so far are good, but he's had 14 fights, we'll know more in a year or two when he's fought some ranked opponents.
There's a good chance Wilder will be in the 245-250 lbs range by the time he fights Joshua. Wilder said so himself that he wants to gain more muscle in this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...26430e-45b4-11e5-846d-02792f854297_story.html I'd say Wilder can KO Joshua in the first few rounds and vice versa. Though I'm leaning more towards a Wilder victory.
