As always, you're a classy guy. Yes Pavlik needs to move up, just like P. Willy shouldn't fight at 147 anymore. They should all add muscle to their big frames, within a reasonable time, and see what they can do at 168 with all the talent up there.

I like Pavlik but it's quite obvious that the young man can't adapt to anyone not staying right in front of him....

In fairness to Hermit (and I say this as someone who backed Maravilla against the odds for quite a while and debated it in a few threads with the Pav horde), when I heard that KP had come in to the ring at 178, I had two thoughts.

The first was: ****, that's big; I hope Sergio stays away from that right. My main worrry had always been that Pavlik could well catch Martinez flush at some point.

The second one, which was more reassurring, was the realization that it meant that he'd come down a hell of a long way. Hitting 159.5 and going back to 178 in 24 hours is a seriously enormous leap. I wouldn't be surprised if it did affect him, even if it was only in a small way. Of course, the lesson to be taken from that is that he probably shouldn't be feckin' around at middleweight if it's that much of a strain to make weight.

 I was thinking the same thing when I saw the 178. I just thought "are you ****ing kidding me?" I had expected him to jump up to maybe 171 or 172 but nearly 19 pounds???

Pav didn't lose in the ring. He lost in the gym. He was soft and looked flat, the fire was gone and now i doubt he gets it back. he had fire before he hit the top

Martinez moved up and owned the bigger man at his own weight. No excuses.

Here is my problem with the "props but he was weight drained issue".

If Pavlik catches Martinez with a right that sends him into next week, Pavlik's detractors say he had the unfair advantage of fighting as a cruiser while Martinez is a natural Jr middle.

But since Martinex whupped his ass, Pavlik's excuse is he was weight drained, look at his fight night weight, he needs to move up to 168.

    So which is it?

What I would like to know is Pavlik's previous fight night weights in his recent middleweight fights. Tonight he fought at 178. What does he usually fight at?

(I was going to pm this, but got lazy.)

The cheap seats in the ballroom there are awesome, though; if you jump, you land in the ring. I'm really sorry I couldn't be there in person; I didn't know you'd be there, but it's pretty easy to figure out if I'm in the crowd.

If you feel ambivalent about the weight issue... just wait until you hear Manny Steward in the commentary.

In the middle rounds (but much too late to do the trick), Pavlik took Martinez's hook away and seemed confident for three rounds. The problem was that his left eye was a problem from pretty much the very first real exchange. When Martinez stepped up huge in aggression, Pavlik's right eye and rhythm were smashed to bits. On tv, at least, it was pretty clear that he couldn't see at all; the only thing he could reliably block, at that point, were straight right hands.

It felt like the corner didn't even try to keep the right eye contained. There has to be some serious changes with his team and I can't say if anyone's willing to do that.

Maravilla had a complete corner, and it showed.
The Ghost had a terrible corner, and it showed.

Funny, I never heard Kelly say anything about being weight drained. Fact is he was turning the tide and then Martinez adjusted. He lost, not because of the weight, but because he was unable to adjust to Sergio's adjustments. Give Sergio his props, I'm a big Pavlik fan. I have to say though, I don't think the issues Kelly are having have anything to do with his skills, they have to do with his mental outlook. Usually he would weigh in around 7-10 pounds heavier, so this is a big signal that he is going to have to move up if he wants to continue. Maybe this is actually a good thing here. Maybe this will motivate him to get a better trainer and make him hungry again? He's going to have to admit that he needs a lot of work in area's and get it done to have any shot a title again.

No more 16 hour days on here, posting about how awesome Pavlik and Loew are, and growing your famous ignore list for you.

Ain't that the truth !! Hermit you are bordering on scarey now with your delusional obsession with Kelly. No matter what happens you find an excuse to make up for any shortcomings in Pavliks ability.
Face facts,he really isn't that good, his days of beating up on little guys are done, and should he be silly enough to move to SMW he'll not only be schooled, but could be seriously hurt.
